The Good and the Bad of your C5
Trying to get the Vette ready for the Spring weather and any thing needs fixing done. Was thinking of the things I have had to fix on my vette and what has been good.
First, I flew back to Flint MI and picked up my vette in June of '05. It had just a little over 20K miles on it and interior was like new and the paint etc. was great. It's a 2000 A4 Vert and was a GM exec. car. It now has 42K on it, mostly highway miles, and is usually stored from Nov till March.
The Good:
1. Great car to drive. Love to cruise with the top down.
2. Best looking vette ever made IMO.
3. Hasn't used any oil between changes.
4. Had the steering lock fix before i bought it.
5. It has trunk space.
6. People notice a Vette, get a lot of compliments, and a lot think it's
new.
7. Car handles great and the acceleration and braking is fantastic.
8. Best gas milage car i own.
9. HUD is one of the best options I have, love it.
The Bad:
1. Overall, mostly PIA little things but if there weren't so much
information here and I couldn't fix most things myself would have
cost me a Bundle by now.
2. Replace the battery and clean up the acid drip.
3. Try to get an off speck alignment - from the factory inside of tires
worn out, outside 65%.
4. Replace the light switch (turn signal lever) Dash and tail lights out.
5. Replace one headlight motor gear. Easier than a C4.
6. Adjust the top, poor seal on back deck.
7. Adjust the door window inward, leaks and a lot of wind noise.
8. Now, one door lock works sometimes. Relay or connector fix.
9. Aerial sometimes doesn't go down all the way. Will have to fix.
10. When it's cold seem to get some tranny oil leaking. Doesn't do it all
the time, will have to watch.
11. Notice oil/dust residue on left rear wheel well. Probably have to
replace the drive axel seal on that side.
All this and this car hadn't been driven hard, left out, or seen much if any bad weather. It was the guys wife's car and only averaged about 4K miles per year when i bought it.
I don't mind working on cars, a little. If i didn't like the looks of this car so much and love the feeling driving it, it would be gone.
I guess some people don't have any problems at all, what's your experience.

The good:
- Wicked/sexy car
- It's a good Mod platform
- being a 97 in good condition, it's by no means a show car....a good "learner" vette for mods that i wouldn't normally do to a show-quality car.
- MPG is twice that of my old truck
The Bad:
- there's a "mouse" somewhere in my dash
- the more I tinker, the more i end up replacing
- Wiring is a nightmare. One of these days I will again rip-up all the carpet and do it right....but i have to get everything I want in first.
- Needs more bottom end power.....(never enough)....I wouldn't be surprised if a H/C were in my future.
