[Z06] C4 ZR1 faster than a C5 Z06 !
#41
ZR-1 especially from a roll will outdo the Z06. I have owned both and my ZR-1 wasn't as quick in the 1/4 mile, but higher speeds it shines. I raced my bro's CTS-V and it smoked that without an issue. I was stock ZR-1 LT5, he had CTS-V with full exhaust, instake and tune. Just from me driving the Z06 it seems to be a more nimble track car for sure. The ZR-1 was just awesome. The engine and transmission are far better than the LS/Tremec combo, and the seats in the early 90-93 ZR-1's are world better as well.
I like the "cheapness" of the Z06, but honestly the LT-5 is dead bulletproof. There is a reason why there was only 1 reported failure when the ZR-1's were new.

What they said. The ZR-1 was the King of the Hill until 2001 Z06 hit the streets. And now with the natural progression of this game, the C6Z06 is the current King until this summer, when the ZR-1 will top them all!! But back to the matter at hand. Except for top speed, the 2001 Z06 is faster than the last model year ZR-1!!
You forgot the C-7 Z06.

Nelson racing engines in Chatsworth has a billet block he made + his own billet heads, imagine a 500cid sbc LT5 with boost.

Your facts are correct but how many people race their cars up to 180mph, I have ran a few ZR-1's back when I 1st got my 01 Z06, completely stock, it wasnt even close. Rergardless, gotta love the ZR-1, what GM could have done with that Lotus built motor, would have been something great, just to cost effective.

And if you add a blower to a C5 Z06 to even the odds up a bit the C5 then becomes the faster car (& won't suffer from the same heat issues at the track.....newer isn't ALWAYS better, a C7 ZR1 though would be nice lol

Saying that the C4 ZR1 w/ the LT5 & whatever tranny they stuck in that thing is "far better" than the LS6 & M12 version of the T56 Tremec 6 speed is just flat out wrong.
89 black tag ZF6 were bombproof. The gearing of the LS6 trans is nice though

And while I too have been under the impression the LT5 is well built sturdy engine - many of em never really got raced or modded heavily nowhere close to the extent of C5/C6 vettes so in reality there hasn't been much real world experience to prove the toughness of that tranny
I did stumble across this - super chevy article from 2000 where this poor guy blew up his 27k mile LT5 just doing a dyno run......
