How to lower shifter?

How to lower shifter?
I received a new shifter **** as a present and it is about an inch taller than the stock ****. Is there an easy way to lower the ****, or will I need to get a short throw shifter? I assume a short throw would be lower.

Just installed a short throw shifter in one of our cars and it is maybe 1/2 inch shorter, It was a B&M shifter.
