I changed out my Hurst shifter with a C6 shifter this evening and I must say, I love it. I'm sure the Hurst fans out there would have issue with this statement, but to me, the C6 shifter is so much smoother and hits every gear without fuss. No notchiness at all. The only issue I have is I'm getting slightly more noise from shift box area. It's not real bad and it's certainly not a noise that would indicate anything is wrong. It's just the decible level coming from the box seems to be tad higher now. It may be because it's just different and something I'll get used to over the next few days, I don't know. I certainly won't hear it when I'm playing the stereo, which is usually the case.
Anyway, my first line of thought was that the base on the C6 shifter is much thinner than that of the Hurst so it probably isn't shielding the noise as much. My second thought was that I didn't install the cap pieces correctly, but I'm sure I installed the rubber cover and gromets correctly.
Has anyone else who has done this mod ran into this issue? Also, is there something I can do or add that would act as a sound barrier? Maybe use some of that stick-on insulation material that people put on the floor and door panels???
Huh? Where would it go? Just under the leather boot or all the way down where the rubber plate is? Man, I never in a million years would have expected that as a solution.

It is a fairly common fix for rattling shifters. There was a good thread a year or so ago with a pretty good write up. I think Patches may have written it or has a copy...
There are many ways to do it, Some cut the ball in half, some cut a hole in the top and a slightly larger hole in the bottom... Some fasten it to the shaft with duct tape, some with silicone, some with nothing...
Okay, thanks! I'll give it try. However, the sound I hear isn't really a shifter rattle (actually, my Hurst shifter did that rattle noise). The only way I can describe it is it's more like when you hear road noise... It's constant. It's almost like if you live near a busy road and hear the traffic everyday, and then one day you open a window slightly. It's not a different noise than normal, it's just slightly louder. Sorry... I should probably drive it a few days to see if it's just my imagination or if it's really louder. If I pop-off the radio bezel again, I'll certainly try the tennis ball trick though.
Chip is correct. Either cut about 2/5ths off a tennis ball, cut a hole just large enough to fit onto the larger part of the shaft and slipt it over the shifter or use a 1-1/2" version of the Fernco plumbing plug pictured below to do the same.
