So my 03 has 8k miles on it, and i have noticed that when i make a sharp slow turn in gear, like going from the street to my driveway, or into a parking spot...
there is a more noticeable grinding sound??? dont know how to really explain it, it sounds kind of like when you go from 1st to forth, and the car is bogged down....and kind of makes that rattling/grinding sound.
do you guys have the same thing???
other than that the car is a monster and performs awesome!!!!!
From: Virginia Beach VA...originally Burtonsville, MD
It sounds kinda like there just isnt enough speed for the gear you're in, kinda like you're gettin ready to stall out. i'm not an expert by any means but that what comes to mind. as far as drivetrain noise, i can hear my drive shaft turning when shifting sometimes with the radio off after installing my B&M. if it sounds like it does when the car bogs after a first to fourth shift i dont think you have anything to worry about though. Good Luck.
i think im just not used to the sounds of the vette yet... when i first test drove a z06 a few years back, i turned off the car with the clutch out, and i thought i broke the car!! LOL

That's a big no-no especially when non vette owners are standing around.

Lol I know its bad!!
Does anyone know why its that loud?? As apposed to other cars??? The vette is the only car I've been in that sounds like the drivetrain fell to the ground when turned off with the clutch out.
With the clutch out, the drive shaft (GM calls it the prop shaft) is turning and when you shut off the engine, the prop shaft becomes somewhat unbalanced and shakes up and down as it quits spinning.

At least, I think that's what is happening.
Whatever causes it, I NEVER, EVER shut off the engine without my foot firmly planted on the clutch.......the embarrasment is too great, and to try to explain that sound as "normal" just makes it worse!

When I do that in my 03 I get a noise when my foot is on the clutch that sounds like a knocking noise every 3-4 seconds from the under my feet ... I had the dealer look everything over and they couldn't find a problem. Everything feels fine but the noise is weird.
I think what you guys might be hearing are the front tires. On sharp turns they tend to plow and will "pop" across the surface, especially if it's smooth.

the tranny noise is common to all of us...its the cut of the gears and is totally normal...hey you are driving a race car ....but rear dif noise , at slow turning in parking lot..should be eliminated with the factory additive...

was this a recall?? if its not doing any damage, it doesnt bother me... i just didnt want it to be something bad.
i plan to have the rear end fluid and tranny fluid swapped out soon with royal purple anyway.
i would recommend factory "dif" service with the additive...i've got 57k miles on my 01 z, and haven't had a problem..and i drive it hard with nitto's on the rear...if you have the car up in the air, i replace my fuel filter every yr...course the 01 z filter is easy to get to....
