Default motor swap opinion...

does swapping in a newer motor devalue a vette? let's say it's a heads/cam FRC vs. a new motor w/ cam...any reason the new motor would make it less valuable or attractive for resale if it's already modded?

Of course it does.

It's not original equipment.

Then again, you also did the same thing with adding the cam/heads to it already. Most people who are looking to buy are looking for a mostly stock car. Me personally though, I wouldn't worry about it. Its your car do what ya want with it

Have you ever tried selling a modded car?? It sucks.

I'm looking for a 2 - 3 year old truck, first mention of mod's and I've no interest.

All depends on the buyer!! At least at this point C5s aren't collector items so it's kind of irrelevant!! There are a lot of buyers out there that are not afraid of quality work on mods,,but you are going to take a hefty hit on the investment!! For me the Cardinal rule is ENJOY YOUR RIDE!! Do what you like(or can afford )

I agree, enjoy your ride.

But he's asking about resale and there replacement engines are very expensive.

If I'm the buyer, what I'm thinking is, "Damn! He must've run the hell out of this thing. He's blown the engine and had to replace it. How do I know he didn't pull that engine out of a worn out car with 300K miles on it? If he ran it hard enough to blow the motor, what kind of shape are the transmission, rear, differential, etc. in?

Nope. I wouldn't buy it.

I was mulling the idea over w/ a buddy and he said something along the lines of what jackalope posted...my mentality is I'd rather have a newer engine, but tryin to understand others...to me it's an FRC, so most people interested aren't gonna look at it for the creature comforts, but more from a performance aspect...prolly gonna just do the heads, since they're cheaper and if a new crate engine won't up the value...it's already got a new clutch and gears
