Default not great, nor teribble

Last night I took the vette to a local corvette shop for my oil to be changed before winter storage.

I bought Mobile 1 from the large warehouse with the red letters (Cost Company). Unfortunately, I realized I grabbed 10w 30; which I wanted 5w 30. I know this is not huge, so I just decided to have the shop use their oil and pay $7 / quart.

The reason I took it to the shop is 2 fold, wanted to hoist the car up to find the two small fluid leaks, check the undercarage as this is my first opportunity to do so, and 3 have the oil changed in the process.

Leak 1: front oil pan (needs a new gasket)
Leak 2: gasket between trans and rear end. Tightend 1/4 turn on each bolt in hope of fixing.

Somehow I feel ok with the price b/c I now know what the small nickel sized occasional leaks are, but part of me feels a bit ripped off.

By the time all was done and said, I walked out paying $160.
($60 bucks in materials / 100 in labor which included figuring the leaks out and the oild change).

The dealer want $90 to just do the oil change and $75 to figure the leak out. So I got a $5 discount by going the route I did, but with a shop that really took good care.

Maybe Im just talking myself in a circle here?

That's high in my book but hey you got it on the lift and checked things out not to mention tightened a few bolts. For a one time charge that's ok but next time change it yourself.

Good that you were able to check the underside of the car out during the process. Hope you got that rear leak fixed - mine leaked from the same spot and the repair bill was $650 - thankfully covered under warranty.

I like to do things like that myself. Of course I've got a Buddy with a lift!

all future oil changes will be done in my garage.

the other things tho... going to have to take it to get fixed out of the pocket. No such thing as a warranty at 12 yrs

I don't see a problem with going to a professional shop if you can't or don't want to do it yourself or lack the tools/equipment. I don't fill my own cavities for the same reason.
The 10w30, by the way, would have been just fine for storage and next spring/summer use.
