Default Keyhole cover question

My black 03 has a keyhole cover. I recently noticed it was scratched. Today I took a good look at it. It appears to be a very flexible clear plastic or thick celophane that has been painted black. I fiddled with it and can't seem to figure out how it comes out.

Anyone have any experience with the flexible plastic or thick celophane variety of covers?

They are inserted like a key. You should be able to get it out if you can get behind it with a paper clip, etc.

If you have the plastic kind sold by Corvette America, they jam into the keyhole and have to be extracted. I drilled a tiny hole into the center and pulled it out. The magnetic ones from Southern Car Parts are better.

I just scratched all the paint off the plastic. It is clear, and it appears the keyhole is closed. It doesn't look like anything is inserted into the key slot.

that sounds like your gonna have to pry under it and dig it out cause it does not sound like one of the magnetic ones.

The last time I removed mine (to wipe off some extra wax) I had my wife use her long fingernails and she was able to pop it out pretty easy. I don't know why yours is such a pain in the ***. (Your keyhole cover that is, not your wife).

Oh, I know what you meant the first time........

Ah, no dear, wasn't talkin' to you, just mumbling out loud...

Hummm better switch to another forum for a minute, I think I hear footsteps coming this way.....

Quickly trying to block screen from her view....

Okay, all's back to normal, she's in the other room.

I've tried the finger nail extraction method, the plastic eliminates the magnet trick working. Running out of ideas, just might try a razor blade and a steady hand.

Bettin you have the ones held on by a very strong magnet. Those suckers are hared to pry off but you can get them off. There should be a white plastic ring behind the magnetized cover.

Why do you have to hide Corvette Forum from your wife? It's not porno or anything!

I have magnetic ones from Southern Car Parts. I just use a magnetic pickup tool and they come out very easy.

Me too. I just put a strong magnet near it and it moves enough for me to pull it off.
