C5 Corvette with 66 Cobra body!
I love the Corvette. I also love the Cobra. So, I built a race quality space frame, skinned it with aluminum, installed the best parts from the 1997 and up Vette and slid an accurate 66 Cobra body over it.
I converted the diff to take a driveshaft and am using a T56 tranny. Some other features is that the air passing through the radiator is routed out the side of the car which eliminates lift. The floor is 3 inches lower so you sit down in my car. And, the headers are routed up and over the footboxes which creates lots of room and keeps the temperture in the car down.
I even painted it the Corvette color, Atomic Orange Effect.
I raced this car against alot of Cobras at an event at Gateway International Raceway. On the road course I set the fast time for ANY, regardless of power, Cobra on street tires.(200 and above rating)
I know it's not for the purists but I wanted a modern supercar with the accurate look of the Cobra. It's under 2000lbs and is a dream to drive.

Cool,,always liked Cobras,, Shelby would have a heart attack if he saw a Corvette motor in a Cobra!! He built the Cobra specifically to beat the Corvettes of the day!

I bet people sh*t themselves when they see a Chevy engine under the hood. You need a small chev emblem on the fender to replace the normal Cobra emblems. Bet that would REALLY freak some people out.
Do you have a pic from the front? What's it look like through the huge "mouth"?

Very nice job.
What people don't know that a lot of the Cobra kits that are produced are Chevy driven, I go to alot of shows and have seen quite a few, Not as nice as yours though, Most have used a BBC and have seen a few SBC..

I don't have a picture of the front to post. By design, my radiator sits straight up. I am making an aluminum shroud for it. So, when you look into the mouth you see all aluminum, shroud and radiator.
I am all about serious sports cars. I like cars with great balance, great cornering, braking, and acceleration. Because of my header design I was able to move the engine even further rearward than normal. Despite the Cobra's 90 inch wheel base and relatively narrow track I have been able to achieve slot car handling with this light weigh machine.
The diff bolts both into the rear cradle and into the back of the structural transmission tunnel. The tunnel in effect becomes a giant torque arm. This combined with the anti-squat geometry designed into the Vettes rear suspension results in the best traction of any independent rear. My chassis is unique in that the suspension loads are evenly transmitted through the trans tunnel and the perimeter frame. Light and stiff is where it is at.

I'm saving my pennies for a set of vintage looking wheels. They can't have the old "deep dish" look as this would screw up the scrub radius. If you draw a line through the upper and lower ball joints, the point where this hits the ground should be the center of your tire contact patch. The difference between these two points is called the scrub radius. The old dish wheels looked cool but resulted in terrible handling. The greater the difference in these points the greater the leverage effect on the steering linkage. This being off will cause the steering to be hard and for bumps and uneven surfaces to cause kickback in the steering wheel.
A company, called Vintage Wheels makes an 18inch wheel with the correct offset that looks alot like the old Halibrands. Someday!
