Default Turn signal HELP!!

Hello I am new and have been had by a problem Vette that I just bought this week.. The Left turn signal flashes very fast and the front works, but the rear does nothing. Everything on the right side works as it is supposed to. When I hit the brakes the light works and when I use the left turn signal the light goes out and the front only works.. I am going NUTZ trying to figure it out. I dont have power at the left light when I use the turn signal. I have checked the connector under the car to see if a wire had come lose or what but nothing. Checked the ground and still havent found anything. I have read about a LED flasher but the problems that people were saying was not what I have so I am lost. Is this a quick fix and wheree is the piece to fix it located. Oh by the way I have used the hazard button to try to fix it abd nothing.. Help please.

Thanks,

Sorry I don't know what you're problem is. However, I don't believe the bi-pass cable you've been reading about is the answer to you're problem. They work very well to fix intermittent turn signals which sounds totally different to me.

Swap out the bulbs on the other side, swap from front to back too, try it again so you can narrow it down to a bulb or connection problem, then go from there. Good luck.

Kind of confusing. When you press the Flasher's button, does it flash then?

When I use the hazard button all the lights work like they are supposed to. When I use the left turn signal it does not flash in the back, and It flashes fast in the front. I have swapped out the bulbs from side to side and the problem is still on the left side not working. The brake light works and the parking lights work fine just the turn signal on the left side is INOP!!! Where is the flasher located on these cars?

Thanks for the help,

Can't remember, owners manual should show. Turn on turn signal, listen where flasher is.

The flasher is located (Shared) with the hazzard switch and is located in next to the center vent.

Yeah, sounds like the hazard switch is dying. Flasher is inside as mentioned

The flasher modules in C5's are notorious for going bad after a period of time. It was one of the first things I had replaced by my GMPP warranty when I bought my vert with 55k mi on it. It sounds like your module is bodgy. I found that I could get mine to work (for awhile) by working the hazard switch in and out several times as if to clean the contacts by working them. But had the switch replaced ASAP and fine ever since...

I believe the dash pad has to come out since its mounted in it. I took the dash pad out to replace the HUD once. Total time was 2.5 hours and it was my first time. It might be possible to get it out via the behind the radio and AC duct. Someone else who has done this can assist you with directions.

The proper way is to pull the dash pad. It's takes a few hours and it is helpful to have an extra set of hands when doing the job.

Make sure you cover up your steering wheel with a towel so that the leather does not get scratched up.

I would check the voltage first. I have a bypass from Corvette-Enhancements that I'd sell ya for $50 shipped, as I my hazzard switxh was no good and so I had to replace it anyway to pass state inspection.

Yeah I kinda figured that the dash would have to come out. I have got the radio out and there is not much room in there to get the flasher out. I hope that this is the problem. How hard is it to remove the dash? I know that dgran3830 said about 2.5 hours not prior experiance to the dash removale, but is It hard or time consuming?

Thanks,

What voltage are you speaking of? At the tail lights or the flasher?

Thanks,

Thanks,
You need to check voltage at turn signal light. It should be around 12 V.

I had a similar problem as yours. The right turn signal would not flash. My problem was multi-faceted.

- Bad wiring - trailer wire hook up was found when I took out the light and it was old and brittle with lots of cracks in the insulation, no voltage to the turn signal. I fixed the wiring.

- Hazard switch was no good. You'd push it in and it would work for a couple of blinks and then just stop. I bought the by-pass kit and installed it.

-Still no rear signal on the right hand side, but I started getting low voltage thru of about 4 - 5 volts. Culprit was a bad turn signal switch.

- So I had multiple issues.
1. Bad wiring
2. Bad Hazard Switch
3. Bad Signal (Multi-Function Stalk)

All fixed now.

How do I tell if the Hazard switch is working? When I press the hazard, all the lights blink like they are supposed too, even the left rear.. I have checked at the connector on the frame under the rear and it has no power going to it when the left turn signal is activated.. I am wondering if the Multi-Function Stalk is the problem. How do you check to see if the stalk is working? If the stalk was the problem, wouldn't the front turn signal not work? Does the bypass kit you talked about make it so you don't have to change out the hazard switch?

Thanks,

Sounds, like the stalk is the problem. There are different wires for each location, front, rear, left and right.

If you're getting no current through the rear light it is the stalk.

You'll need to pull you knee bolster off to access the connector C209. It's the big one on the left hand side.

If you do a search there are a few write-ups on how to swap out the stalk switch. Took me about an hour at a leisurely pace.

I have done a search and I can't find how to clean the switch. I had it out this morning and I sprayed some electrical cleaned in the area where the spring is, and blew it out with air. Hooked It back up and it still has the same problerm.... the left rear is not flashing!!!! I am going NUTZ trying to figure it out.. I could not get the stalk apart to clean in the inside (I dont have all my torx bits at home they are at work). I guess that is the way to take it apart.

Thanks,
