Nice job hiding the switch Tim! I also used a pin switch from radio shack. My 12 cd's are in the trunk but I'm always looking for the remotes for my cove lights! Hey, what is the free lid mod?? Never heard of it!

Tom, good job as always! I thought about doing Red but decided this time I'd like to read with the light!
Some time ago a member had posted some pics of reaching in and easily opening his lid, it was like a mini slideshow, I've lost the link to the Thread I saw it in so I can't give the member to give him his due credit...
Anyway he didn't explain how he did it but obviously he removed a part of the catch mechanism or broke it. I removed the "reciever" or the lower part that's in the frame of the console, I don't know why they made the spring in that thing so strong! When I decided to add a switched light to the lid I removed the guts of the catch assembly and installed the micro switch into the housing, then popped it back in. here's the switch I used;
I looked at pin switchs but the springs were all too stiff...
I've had several PMs about this so I think I'm going to go ahead and reverse engineer it and this time take some pics... Speaking of pics, I'm going to resize the ones I posted!
Thanks tim; NOt sure I described the switch I used properly but its doesnt have a very strong spring at all. Its actually really lame and I've had to replace it once already. If it goes bad again I might have to do what you've done. Here is the one I used and where I mounted it.
I pulled the power from the accessory outlet and routed it the same as you it sounds like.

Hey, great stuff guys! I had thought about attempting to do something like this but really didn't know where to begin....looks great!

Boy you can tell a modaholic by what's in his or hers center console compartment huh?
Been reading up on a lot of this LED stuff since you helped me with my blown AC power board. I just did the led swap for some of the interior panels (took the ozium leds and swapped them into the stock bulb holders).
Gotta say this setup's pretty cool. Did you just take one of these strips and 3M tape mount them, or attach them somehow else? Looking at the photos, where'd you hide the power wire? I'll probably use a switch setup like Nascar's, think I've got a micro switch laying around in the garage, will have to check.
It seems they don't sell the ones I used anymore. I stuck it to the lid (3M tape was already applied to the strip) and drilled a very small hole in the lid where the bump is for the catch...
It's one of the more functional LED mods I've done! Right up there with relocating my fuel door release to the traction control plate...

Nice! I may pop off the inside panel on my lid and take a look. I'd be all for only having the lights shine through drilled holes and sticking the strip on the inside. May have to one-up yah if I can!
That would be cool!!!!! Take a bunch of pics, I'd like to see it!

Got back from paintballing today and unscrewed the lid and it's inner panel. Looks like the place you put your strip at has just enough space on the inside to fit a strip plus some sealant (to keep the light from glowing up inside the lid).
If I didn't keep getting done with stuff every day just as the electronics store I want to go to closes at I'd probably have a strip of LED's already to try with!
