Default key fob won't stay synchronized

I have just picked up my first vette. It is a 2000 model with 39k miles. It came with one key fob that wasn't working when I picked up the car. I installed a new battery, followed the instructions in the manual to synch with the car and all appeared to go as instructed. The fob still would not operate. Next I went to the dealer who instructed me to stand by the car, press the lock and unlock keys on the fob for 7 sec and this appeared to work. The car locked, unlocked, horn beeped, trunk opened etc and I thought all was well. After leaving the dealer, I made another stop and tried to use the fob again and it wouldn't work. I pushed the lock and unlock buttons again for 7 sec and the fob syncd again but when I came back from the store, it wouldn't work and I had to use the key to open the car. Does anyone have any idea what I should do next?

I have the same issue.. only my car is '98 with 50k mi .... and key fob causes lock/unlock to double up... 2 locks for every one press of lock button. then it forgets the fob and doesn't work at all? is this a bcm/pcm issue?

My fob does not stay in sync either. I do the lock/unlock press for 7-9 seconds... it works then but not a little while later. I did the reset through the DIC, it said it took it, but still did not seem to set the fob to unlock/lock the doors.

So, I just ordered a new one from Gene at GMPARTS... Should be getting it in a few days, then I'll know for sure.

Try this:
1. Turn ignition key to ON position, don't start.
2. Clear any warning messages on the DIC by pressing RESET button.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the DIC several times until the blank page is displayed, then press and hold the RESET button for two seconds.
4. When the message FOB TRAINING is displayed, push the RESET button once. The message HOLD LK + UNLK 1ST FOB will be displayed.
5. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 15-20 seconds.
6. When a transmitter is learned, the DIC will display FOB LEARNED and then prompt you to learn the next transmitter.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each additional transmitter (up to 3 transmitters can be learned).
8. Remove key from ignition.

Your fob has died. Try this fix:

If that doesn't work, buy a new one.

I bought a battery powered iron with small tip at radio shack and repaired both of mine now they work like new !!! You might need a magnifying glass also.

Contact Gene Culley for a replacement fob. He's got the best prices for them that I've seen. www.gmpartshouse.com
