Default I drive like an Old Man

I drive like an old man, cause I am one. Drive my 2004 'vette around town daily what ever the speed limit is. Sometimes trade revs with a Rustang and rarely show one he just doesn't have what it takes.
Anyway, some have told me I'm damaging the engine by not running it harder. Is that true? If so, how hard do I need to run it and and what frequency.

Now if you want to intimidate, Ill reccomend a nitrous system, a little purge when your next to a stang, they dont look at you anymore, they just wonder (most common reacton is OH ****). And no, im not a young tuner, 32, just use the spray at the strip.

I hear ya. I drive my Honda Civic faster than the Vette. In that car, it's just to get me where I am going.

In the Vette, I just like to cruise. Stepping on it once is a while for the fun of it.

Your on the street and doing just fine, that is why there's tracks. The truth of the matter is your Vette is much better off being driven then sitting in a garage. Reaching operating temps is better than running the car too hot and pushing it to its limits. Now your not going to hurt anything by doing that but normal wear and tear will be shorten with spirited driving

I also drive "slow" around town.

But, there is a right time and place for everything, if you know what I mean

I too am an old man, and I drive just like you. Don't get me wrong, I do not granny shift and the RPM's do get up there, but I stay with the flow of traffic. You could probably count the times I was forced to go the 1st to 4th shift on one hand in the last three years.

I have two stangs across the street from me and that is all I hear, is drive it like it was made to be driven. They say, that if it was as fast as theirs I would be showing it off. I told them any time they want to try it out let me know, they have test and tune every Wednesday night at a local track, but they state, I don't race on the track, but we could go out on the back roads. Well in the area I live, there are no real back roads.

Default Me too

Star & I were coming back from a poker run last Sunday and we were just taking it easy on some of our beautiful back roads when I noticed a few cars behind me. I thought to myself "be patient, I'm just enjoying myself". When I realized that I'm that old man I used to bitch about! Top down, take time to smell the roses.

Because they have really cracked down on speeders in Ontario lately (they'll impound your car instantly and give you a $10,000 fine if you're doing 50km/h over the limit) I have not been driving my car as hard as I used to. So I also worry that I'm not doing my engine any favors by babying it more than usual, as I've heard the LSx series of engines has a tendency to build up more carbon if you don't go full throttle often. I try to make a few full throttle blasts here and there (mostly when merging onto the highway) but I still fear I'm also not doing my engine any favors by driving it so gently 99% of the time. I haven't been taking it to the dragstrip as often the past couple of years either (only once per year as opposed to 4 or 5 times that I used to go)

Your not hurting anything, but I would recommend to take it on the freeway once and awhile to blow the carbon out of it.

I don't know, driving my Vette around seems to cause me to drive just a "little bit" faster than in the Caddy!

I'm definately more vigilant of other traffic driving mine. Not so much watching the car in front of me- but the car in front of him. Looking around a bit more than in my Lincoln.
I'll give her a little 1-2-3 for grins every now and then, but for the most part- I'm pretty conservative too. And my motor has not been damaged

You got that right, Chris! I'm no street racer, but that doesn't stop any number of cars (both import and domestic) from wanting to race me. Every once in a while I will throw a little purge out there and watch the "Oh Sh**" look wash across their faces I was going fishing the other day...stopped at a red light...two young guys in an Integra replete with spoilers, fart can muffler, etc roll up. He starts revving. I look over at him...smile creeps across my face...PURGE.....no more revs from them. These two guys FOLLOWED me to the lake a couple miles down the road. Why? They just wanted to tell me how badazz my Vette was and how much they liked it. It's nice to have your own fan club

I'm 65 and drive pretty wimpy (within speed limits). There are moments on backroads where she gets to run, though.
