Taking The IPOD Plunge

Taking The IPOD Plunge
okay, first and foremost I have searched until my eyes started to bleed without any help.
throughout my searches I have narrowed my options down to 3:
iSimple - AppleŽ iPodŽ Direct Connect Kit for Select GM Vehicles
Model: ISGM74 | SKU: 8760888 -$149.99
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1202650491628
Neo iOn : PODGM4V6
[PODGM4V6] - $149.99
http://www.icarkits.com/product_info.php?products_id=99
PERIPHERAL PXDP IPOD INTERFACE with PERIPHERAL PXHGM4 Harness -
Roughly $115
http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=8107
now, moving forward I have an 02' z06 with the factory Bose head unit and 12 disk changer. I don't mind ditching the 12 disk changer for the IPod at all. which of the above 3 choices would be best. I guess a little compare and contrast is what i'm looking for amongst the 3. a couple things I would like to add are: best fit/finish, IPod charging capabilities, quality, factory head unit able to control IPod. price is really of no concern, with that in mind let's hear it fellas.

I have the IPod 2 car. I didn't click on all of your links so I'm not sure it's one of those, but it's great.
I sold my CD changer and just use the Ipod.
I routed it from the trunk/hatch area under the carpet into the center console.
I also bought a cheap Ipod holder and just installed it on the TC plate. Just hide your Ipod when you leave your vehicle.

I went with PERIPHERAL and attached it to the back of the head unit. Removal of the head unit was not nearly as hard as I anticipated. Works like a charm as you can use the radio control buttons. I routed the cable to the ashtray and use it as the Ipod storage.

iPod2Car
iPod2Car works great! I removed the CD changer from the trunk, plugged it in, and routed the cable up to the console. Plugged the iPod in and it works fantastic. Read the instructions on what DIP switches to set.

I went with the PIE adapter, that way I could keep my 12 disc changer and put my iPod in the car when I want to. I have a neat little AUX selector that fits perfectly in place of my ashtray and I have 3 phono ports for additional AUX devices.

I did the same, now I have my 12 disk, my ipod, my SAT Radio, and a second ipod for my wife's ipod when we travel....... but I redid the AUX selector so that I just have a tiny push button in my console to select the different inputs.

It doesn't help to OP but if you have an aftermarket HU its worth checking to see if you have an aux setting/connection.
I have an AVIC X1 with an aux audio hook up. I connected a red/white audio connector/mic plug type cable and I can operate it through the aux setting on the HU.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the ipod2car, ismiple kit you can find at best buy, and the peripheral are all the same thing. I'm pretty sure peripheral makes all of them. I grabbed the isimole kit and it is exactly the same as the other two. It is made by peripheral. Make sure whatever one you get it supports the correct charging method.
Example: the first gen iPhone used FireWire which was a 12v system. The iPhone 3g uses a 5v USB charging system. So when I switched from first gen to 3g I had to buy a thirty dollar adapter. You can avoid this buy ensuring the iPod interface you have matches the charging system of your iPod. If it's a newer iPod you definitly have USB.
Also check out proclipsusa. They have a mount made specificlly for the c5. Buy that then attach a holder to it and you have the best setup you can buy for only a few hundred dollars. I have installed the same setup in all three of my cars. Great product!

I don't have an iPhone...I actually have a Blackberry Storm. Don't like AT&T where i live.
I do though have a gen 3 iPod nano I use on my Bike that would be nice to just move to the car too.
Thought: Could just add the input (stereo 3.5 mm) without the radio control allowing me to use the iPod OR Blackberry. Does not let me charge as easily but does not stick me to a specific technology....

I have the ipod2car and am very happy with it. The best place to buy it is on the big auction site. If you are connecting at the back of the head unit, you will need cable P/N PXHGM4. If connecting at the CD changer in the trunk, you will need cable P/N PXHGM2.
CF member Toque created a very well documented thread with step by step instructions for installation at the back of the head unit.

I was asking my kids about how they get their IPODS working in their cars/suv's?
Easy Dad, just use a FM station and it picks it up. My kids know -0- about cars and wiring, but computers and IPODS, they are good.
Am I leaving something out or missing something ?

You can do that however you will pick up a bunch of interference with radio stations on the same frequencies. I got frustrated with that very soon.

I did the same and it works great! Out went the 12 disc changer and in went the ipod interface unit. Took all of 15 minutes. Best $100 I spent on the vette so far.
