Default Spare key for glove box

I want to get a spare key just for the glove box and console. Do I still need to know what # key I have. Or will any of the 1-15 vats key blanks work once I had it cut?

Tried going to one hardwarw store to have one made up. Doubt I'd need the chip for the glove box??? But they didn't have one anyway.

Any suggestions. Was going to get one from the auction site.

Thanks.

I believe as long as the key is cut right it will work, The pill in the key is only for the starting of the car, I have seen keys without a pill for the door and glove/console being sold.

Why go to the expense of a vats key if all you want it for is to lock/unlock the glove box and center console? Having a vats pellet in the key has no effect on those locks, only the ignition switch. Just get a regular key cut for about a buck.

Thanks guys for the advice. I guess I didn't realize what "vats" really meant. Now, to find a blank key w/o the vats. One local hardware store didn't have one. I'll have to check around.

I've been been looking at that lock on the center console for awhile now. I've never used that lock and was thinking, Hmmm. What if I pulled that lock out, replaced it with a round push button and hooked the button to the garage door opener. Seems like a good place for something like that. Hmmm!
