My biggest "HUH" is folks that have bought a brand new vette
wash it, then show it expecting to win a trophy. I just don't
get it.

Totally agree with you, but all judged show by judges are/have different opinions on what's being judged ..I found out that our local judges also look for:
1.) First Aid Kit ( Visable)
2. Fire Extingusher ( Visable)
3.) Clean to spotless under carriage( No leaky Butts either)
4.) Receipent must be around car when judged.
5.) Owners Manual ( visable)
Just to name a few things...Good thread to help someone...

Where do you display these items during a show? Items# 1,2,and 5.

my tip would be to clean inside the gas cap and inside exhaust tips. they always go there for tie breakers. make sure your gas break and clutch pedals are clean. a big spot missed a lot is door hinges. It takes me 45 min to clean all four of mine.

Car show judging seems so unfair sometimes but on a lighter note I enter my car at each event I attend just to park closer. I place my signature sign in the window that says this is what a corvette looks like when you drive the snot out of it everyday with a smile every mile.
I know some people really love to win at these events but I would much rather make a friend than carry home a dust collector.
PS my car is really nice and I do take very good care of it so I will not offend any of the really pristine cars.
To all of you who really try hard to win I hope your dreams come true sometime and the judges recognize all your hard work.

That's it brother.....
And if you see a little kid really eyeballing your Vette ask him if he'd like to sit behind the wheel......
When you see the look on that face you'll get the best feeling in the world, I guarantee.......
And maybe create a future Vette owner.........

Now if you are a hot chick I'll let you crank it up and rev the snot out of it.....
While I enjoy picking up a trophy, I really enjoy people looking over the car and then seeing my display sign with the mileage on it - over 100k. They rarely believe the mileage. That's my biggest compliment.

I love my Corvettes and I love viewing other Corvettes at car shows. But, I admit, I rarely enter my cars in shows. I just don't get it!
I am supposed to pay an entry fee, spend 4 hours detailing the car, then spend another 4 hours or so sitting in the hot sun to win a $7 trophy??

At the show & shine in little Iuka, Miss., they divide the registration proceeds and draw for cash prizes. $500 beats a $7 trophy any day, especially if you ain't gonna get a trophy.

I love these car show tips. Go to have fun and show your car. The joy of the show is people meeting other car enthusiasts. As for the trunk, glove box and console the rule of thumb is ... if if wasn't in there from the factory, take it out. I have been to shows all over the southeast and local shows and have never heard of the trunk being to plain (nothing in it). Ya win some and you loose some, but in everyone you have a good time and meet new friends.

I have found it is much MUCH more fun to DRIVE it
I went to a "show and shine".
Rule #1: pick all stones out of your tires
You're kiddin'.....Right????
The guy next to me went over his car with a whole bag
of Q-tips for an hour.
I would hope any of you guys, that polish that much, that
seriously, have another 'vette that you actually drive.
Life is too short to spend looking at a clean car.
They were made to be driven.........

Super late to the conversation - but if someone else finds it, thought I would ad this guide I found recently. I'd spent the last month reading over people's car show tips on the web and this was one of the better articles I found.
Disclaimer: I don't know much about car shows yet besides the little, poorly planned out events for classic car owners to show up in front of some retro dinner and show off rides to patrons for free burgers. I'm working up to taking my car to a legit state car show soon.

I prefer a NCCC or NCRS Concourse to any car show. There they only judge the car. Not a stupid doll, signs, etc.
1st part of their judging is a tech where they make sure everything is working on your car. Doesn't work they take off points. Every one starts with 100
Car is judged with hood down, doors closed. They check for fit 1st then you open hood doors to judge interior and engine.
You will be asked to remove floor matts to check on carpet so don't put them in.
There are different classes Wash and Show don't check under hood, Concourse and Concourse Prepared , and Race Prepared.
If you have a chance enter your car in a Concourse, the judges will help you chose the class. It is a good way to see where your car can use some improvement. Judging is always fair.
