Make sure the surface is clean and clear of fingerprints or oil. Multiple light coats are better than one heavy coat.
I used a section of cardboard so I could spray them vertically instead of having them lay on a bench.
I did two light coats for more of a smoke gray look rather than blacked out. That matches the smoke gray tail light covers I have.
Mine were fairly flat to start with but waxing them along with the car has built up a nice shine.
For a really gloss finish you should very lightly wet sand the VHT coat with a 3000 grit (to get rid of any orange peel) and then hit them with clear coat. You can wet sand the clear coat as well.
Mine right after I did them.
I think they match rather nicely.

The sanding also removed all the raised lettering as a side benefit. I picked up the VHT Nightshades locally at Jegs.
You also want to be very careful removing and re-installing the marker light. The combination of sheet metal nuts and the plastic posts isn't a good thing. The posts will snap very easily if over tightened.

Well said Blue 92. I hit maine with quite a few light coats to get a deep black color and then wet sanded them when I was done. Mine look almost like a satin finish, which is what I was going for, rather than flat or glossy. I may even see if I can find an extra set of front corner light housings to try and lose my blackout kit.

I did mine and they were so dull at first, I was really upset with the way they looked on my car. I gave some clear coat in a spray can a try and it really did the trick! They are pretty glossy now. I also didn't get the tail lights dark enough so one of these weekends I'm going to put on a few more coats and finish it up with some more clear.
I have heard about some people painting the side markers while they were still on the car, not sure I would attempt it but as long as you mask the area good, should turn out fine.
