Default Dual Cone Air Intake Systems - Yay or Nay?

I'm considering swapping out the stock air intake for a chrome dual cone air intake system. I saw one at a local show and I really liked it.

I know not to expect "amazing HP increases", etc., however I am curious if there are any negatives to the design. Obviously, the cone filters are exposed, etc., however the systems seem to be completely reversable without any cutting, drilling, etc.

I know it's more of a engine bling/cosmetic upgrade, however I would appreciate any feedback either positive or negative on the design.

Thanks!

The dual cone intakes do give 10-15hp increase, depending if you also have a tune or not...If you drive in the rain, put some weatherstripping up front to seal the hood...otherwise it's a good mod. Indy

I had one and didn't notice any improvements in power. They do look better than stock though.

Just like Indy said get that seal. Water will get into it.

I have one and noticed an immediate improvement over stock. You must do the seal. Looks cool too.

you cannot beat the dual cone with what it cost, i bought mine off ebay for $60.00 including shipping, it also passed the famous grease test with flying colors.....don't forget the front hood seal

Go ahead,,especially if you find one at a good price!! There is a SLIGHT improvement,,though MOST don't feel it!! You may see a tiny MPG improvement as well. As stated if you don't like it,,you can always change it back!!

Thanks guys! I already have the hood seal and the amazing HP increase that was promised by installing it!

I also plan to get a tune after I install any new air intake.

Mine came w/ the dual cone I have had no prob yet but I have not oiled them! I've driven car for 3 summers. The previous owner had the cats replaced twice. I spoke w/ someone @ an autocross who worked for GM & asked why would they have needed to be replaced he immed. asked if I had that (K&N filter) and he said the oil can get sucked in make the car run a little rich which fried the cats. I just keep mine clean but wanted to oil them a little over the winter

For the money they look great much nicer then stock but if you going to run the **** out of your car you can go with something else but I like it stock and it's fast enough for me it out runs most other cars on the road and were talking 11 year old technology

if you look above the C5 logo on the nose of the car between the edge of the nose peice and the chrome you will see a black peice stuck along the edge of the nose ontop of the chrome peice that is the stripping they are talking about

It was my 1st intake 8 C5's ago. I didn't like through P0131 and p0171. Went to a Vortex and never had another issue.
