Default Using Rhino Ramps

Can anyone who is using Rhino Ramps tell me how you like them for use with the C5. Are you using the 8000 or 12000 size units. Where do you buy them. Thanks much.

I got mine at Auto Zone and I like em just fine although I did need to build some little pre-ramps out of 2x10s to get on them. They are the 12000s.

I am using the 12,000 lb, 37" long units. Rhino also makes a 57" long ramp which has a lower approach angle. This might work better for the Vettes. In order to get the car up onto the ramps, I have to stack 2 2x10 planks before the ramps so the bumper will clear the ramp. My car is not even lowered. Hope this helps.

I have the 12000 version and like others stated, you will still need to put wood in front to elevate the car before the tires get to the ramp. Even with the wood, my car scrapes (the plastic gaurds, not the actual bumper but its REALLY close) and I am at stock ride height. But for the price, compared to race ramps, I am more than happy to use them and some wood

I have the 67 inch, long approach type that I purchased from MidAmerica several years ago. Just drive my lowered '01Z right up, forward or reverse. They have saved me plenty just changing my oil. Mine are hanging on the garage wall when not in use.

I use the regular 8k ramps. No problem driving up them, but my car is not lowered. I like them.

They work great for me, using the 8000 lb version.

I have some and never liked them. I always had issues with them sliding as I was trying to pull up. Also, the drain plus is on the front of the pan on a C5, so you need to get the back up to change the oil anyway.

If you're set on ramps, Race Ramps makes a nice [yet expensive] product. Those didn't fill my needs, either...and I wasn't ready for a hydraulic lift...so I bought a Kwiklift. It's served me well, but I am starting to want a hydraulic lift.

Default Build them!

Built the best ramps myself.

Used 2 x 10 lumber, 3" deck screws, carpenters wood glue
Total cost $ 40.00
Tools required
circular saw, cordless drill, drill bits, ruler, level

The ramps are 60" long with 2 approach angles.
The first 24" of the ramp are set at a 9 degree angle to avoid scraping the front. the next 24" of ramp are set at a 15 degree angle and the last 12" are a flat box that the tire sits on and is 12" off ground and has a stopper so you dont roll off.

If you want pictures or an image of the design..let me know!

Marty

I use the 12,000lb units. Got them at O'Reilly's for like $40. Mine do not slide at all. My car is maxed out on stock bolts. Here's some pics of me using the units to change out my turn signal housings.

As you can see, on my lowered car, I do NOT need any pre-ramps or anything so not really sure where that idea stems from unless your car is bottomed out.

Default Marty Ramps

Yelp rhino ramps are a pain to use and slide and caused major damage to my rocker panels on my slippery epoxy coated garage floor.:eek I am so happy to have a plan for those nice ramps you built. Plan to build mine this weekend Thanks Brian

I use Brute Race Ramps. They never slide and are longer, wider, higher and lighter than Rhino Ramps but are also costlier. Plus mine are 2 piece so that you can remove the ramp section out of your way once the car is up.

I use them with mine - they work just fine. I have the black ones and I got them at AutoZone I believe.

Hey Brian

Thanks for the kudos about the ramps....and its easy to build!
Glad to help a fellow forum member!

If you want to use these ramps for the rear tires use 2 x 12 instead of 2 x 10 lumber. Buy dry lumber and use good wood screws(deck screws work well).
Predrill holes to avoid splitting any of the lumber.
If you need help let me know..

Good luck

A really simple solution for sliding ramps is the common door mat. Just place one under the back end of each ramp and you'll have no issues with movement of the ramps.
