Default What grease to use on new brass headlight gears?

I installed the "bfranker" brass gears in my headlights a while back and I must have used the wrong grease as my lights consistently get stuck.

I need to take the assemblies back apart, clean them and put in new grease. What precise type of grease do I need to purchase?

Thanks,
Zack

Have you thought of contacting the vendor?

Hey guys, telling me that your kit came with grease doesn't tell me what type of grease to buy! I swear some people post just to post!

Anybody use anything besides lithium grease?

Look for grease with molybdenum disulfide in it, or "Moly grease" or some such. If you can find molybdenum disulfide paste (pure moly) that woud be better because you need to use only a small amount to provide excellent lubrication for the life of the gears.

Moly paste will come in a small tube if you can find it. I use it as a break in lube on cylinder walls when building engines. In this case, just the barest thin film wiped on the cylinder wall (so thin that it is all but invisible) provides extremely good cylinder/ring friction reduction on initial start.

Are you sure grease is your problem?

OR did the plastic gearbox come loose where your epoxied it?

If it did, Rodney Dickman has a metal bracket that works great. He sells it separate from his gear too.

Oh, I would use a white lithium grease.

Mr. Bill...Up until recently only one person had recommended lithium grease...ONE person and no one so far as told me WHY I should use it.

Initially my drivers side gear was stripped so I replaced both with brass gears at the same time. My passenger side worked perfectly before replacement of the gear.

Now both lights pop up if I flip the light switch on and have a buddy barely touch the manual *****. Its as if the gears break free with a little help. They always go down without any assistance when I turn the switch off.

I'm thinking I used too much of a grease that was too "thick" to begin with. Also the lights tend not too pop more often in colder temperatures.

Of course I welcome any constructive and helpful advice.

I may very well try this if I can get my hands on some.

I am having the same problems with my C5. The "head lamps" will always turn on, but they pop up (or not) sporadically. Sometimes only one pops up - sometimes the other one pops up!. It seems like my problems started after the brass gear "upgrade". Did the lithium grease solve your problem? Both lights will always pop up after I manually turn (more like release) the motors. I don't believe the motors are over-torqued - I can "release" the motors with very little effort.
