Over the last several years it has seemed to become the norm to make vets, cops, firemen out to be heros. I am just saying that it's not the title you carry or the job you do that makes a hero, it's heroic actions that make heros.
Well I hate to tell you, But in my opinion Vets are Heros, Love your freedon, Thank a Vet.... Plain and simple.

are pensle like tim mcvay also considered heros? i agree that serving in the military is honorable but really think you cheapen true heroism by assigning it to so many.

I think his fingers got lost on the key board,,he meant people.

Tim McVey was in hservice and to my knowledge was honorably discharged. What he did after he left the service does not and is not any reflection on what he did while in uniform. Many people that have faced combat and other stressful situations have serious problems re adjusting to a change.

I recommend you read the book [U]UNBROKEN[U] to get an idea about how some folks react to military service once they leave.

Sorry, I wrote that on my phone and failed to do a good job of proofreading.

I really don't think you're getting my point so I'll stop now.

My father-in-law is a Vet...Air Force...never served a day overseas, so no combat. He is one of the most self centered selfish people I have ever met. His wife, my mother-in-law, along with my wife and her siblings are of the exact same opinion that this planet will be better off when he stops sucking air. Under these circumstances, anyone who calls this sorry excuse of a man a hero, has zero ability to make a good judgement.

As a retired Veteran (22 years) I have to agree. Just because you served your nation in the military you can still be a complete D-Bag……trust me I know, I’ve seen them, even served with them in combat…I’ll thank them for their service but other than that I wouldn’t give them a squirt of pi$$ if they were on fire. Now this is not the norm, 99% are outstanding folks but 1% can be complete d-bags. Most of the complete D-bags were senior enlisted or officers.

On thing that disgust me during my time in Iraq is that I watched active duty officers putting themselves in for Bronze Stars to “pad their resume” for future rank. These scumbags never even left Camp Victory…..I on the other hand was traveling 2-3 times a week between Baghdad and Fallujah, 43 miles of hell and Tangos…

I'm curious as to why we are using a year old thread to discuss who or who shoudn't be considered a hero.
