I want to polish my wagon wheels
I have a 2001 c5 and my wheels have a lot of fine scratches. They are factory polished wagon wheel stock spokes. I want them to look awesome! So what do I do? I've read that they have a clear coat on them and you can't polish them. Is this true? Is there a way to remove the clearcoat or polish it?
Your input is greatly appreciated.

2000 on they were polished THIN spoke wheels,,wagon wheels have spoke that are about 4" wide each and they were painted. The thin spoke you probably have DO have a clear coat on them and most use a mild paint stripper to remove it.There are a few threads,,just go to the top of the general column to forum tools and click search and type in polishing wheel or something similar. Some have posted how to and pick. Some really looked awesome!! You will have to either re clear coat or do regular polishing thereafter!!

Once you get the clear stripped, you can use our wheel polishing kit

These are the wheels you should have on a 2001.
They are polished and than a clearcoat is applied. If you want them to look better you will need to strip the clearcoat off, polish them and them have the clearcoat reapplied. If you don't want the clear back on, you will be polishing them all the time and it will get old.

This is the stuff you use. Wipe it on, let it set, hose it off. The clear coat comes off like a snake shedding its skin... well, sort of.
I don't have this car anymore. Can't remember why. Here are the wheels "after" the stripper danced.

I stripped mine in one weekend with the tires on them barrels and all. I used paint stripper from Home Depot. Also used MEK. You need patience and a lot of ambition. Aircraft spray on stripper I heard works well. Here are some pics after I stripped mine
