Just ordered a COMP 921 valve spring kit from Summit and it should be here by Wednesday or Thursday. Going to replace everything and do a compression test with the help of forum member Motorhead-47 (GREAT GUY). Hopefully everything turns out to be okay or else the head is coming off.

Also going to replace my NGK TR5's with some new TR5's cause they are pretty blackened up.

We're going to replace everything this weekend if my parts get here on time so wish me luck!

I'm not sure about that Motorhead guy but you bought the "good stuff" when you bought the 921's! We should have you running by lunch time this Saturday.

A special thanks to Mike Norris of Mike Norris Motorsports for the cellphone "Lifeline" consult!

Well my tool that I bought from another forum member got sent to my old address and was therefore undeliverable because I wasn't there to receive it. What I don't understand is that we set up our mail to be forwarded to my new address and I am receiving all of my other mail right now. Why the hell wasn't the tool forwarded like everything else. fricking oxygen thieves I tell ya. I hope whoever is responsible chokes on there own spit. I WANT TO FIX MY CAR ALREADY!!!!

I have all the parts and no tool. FML..

If this wasn't such a serious thread, we could get a lot of mileage from this quote!

Ever think about using compressed air to hold the valve up, or do you really need the right tool?

Hehe.. Never noticed how that sounded about having the parts and no tool.

I am going to use compressed air to hold the valve up, but I still need the valve spring compressor to remove the springs.

Ahhh, I see. Good luck, I'm sure you'll get it done soon.

how cold was it outside. and was your car warmed up, when you went to wot. i have broken 3 prc dual springs on my 02 trans am because it was cold outside and i did not wait for the car to fully warm up.

and for the specs on your cam just pull it. it should say on the cam what it is. its not that hard to do and its a fun weekend project.

Was about 75 degrees out and I had already been driving the car for about 30 minutes.

With the help of Motorhead-47 and another friend, my Z is now running strong again. It took about 3 hours from beginning to end. I'll post some pics of the springs shortly

Old springs. Anyone know what kind these are by just looking at them? They are definitely not COMP

Another pic from top

The outer spring broke in three places, but the inner spring kept the valve from dropping. Facking aftermarket defects I tell ya!!

Wow thank goodness for that second spring! Good to know you're back up. What was total damage cost wise if you don't mind me asking...?

Thanks.. The COMP 921 kit was about $615.00 Shipped, the tool was $40.00 shipped, bought new spark plugs $18.00, and the total being about $673.00 and a two week wait.

Thank goodness for good people who are willing to donate their time and knowledge. It could have been more like $1700 plus if I paid to get it done.

Changing the springs is not too difficult with the right tools.
You need a compressor that holds 100-150 psi
I use my leak down tester air hose, screw in the spark plug hole.

- Pop of the covers, coilpacks, plugs and plug leads.
- Unbolt all of the rockers.
- put the cilinder under pressure
- put on spring compressor, compress spring and pick out the locks with a magnetic bit
- reinstall new spring and retainer, compress and put the locks back. Try to have valve/retainer centred as much as possible.

Because i'm a visual person:
