Default Column Lock Fix for C5 from GM fixed in 2009

Since 2009 a new harness was used. The old harness fix from tyco with the tall relay housing always failed. The new design from GM for the last couple years, P/N 19244028 works. GM has used over 6,000 of the new ones and not had failures.
The old Tyco parts had lousy protection and didn't last. The relays burned up.
The original Harness K kit was part #88952427, which was superceded by 89023816. They both failed.
The new ones P/N 19244028 are well protected and reliable and have had no failures in 2 years.

Well, that's good news for those that haven't already done the CLB fix.

Performance Chevrolet in Sacramento, (916-331-6777) says that P/N 19244027 is NOT a valid Chevrolet number.

Is it possible you've transposed a number or two?

You are correct. The P/N should be 19244028.
Thanks

If GM really have finally come up with a fix that really is good news. As I see it, still too many people don't know about CLB and if this helps those owners who go wallet in hand to the dealer, albeit at twice the price, that has to be good.

Could this really be the end of the column lock problems?

I know.................the eternal optimist

Not to mention the CLB STILL is going to be more reliable. How many owners have CLBs that have failed? Exactly how long should it last? We don't know since they don't fail.

Here is a link to dealerships selling it for $85.
Non supporting dealer link not allowed

GM tested the 19244028 with over 100,000 cycles and had no failures where the old K harness failed quickly in the same test.
Also, the new 19244028 cycles the column lock motor (even though the locking plate should have been removed and the column can not lock) this exercises the relay contacts in the BCM, without this method the BCM (very expensive and hard to get to) could fail prematurely. The aftermarket CLB does not cycle the column lock motor.

I wonder if this new harness is what Chevy will be installing as part of the recall...

I threw my "K" harness in the dumpster when I installed the CLB. My thought is why "BUY" (GM should offer it and the installation for FREE - that will NEVER happen.) the "new & revised" K harness when a CLB cost way less and is a proven solution to the problem that GM has turned its back on (a a recall issue)?

Hate to say it...but...the handling of the column lock issue is probably just another indication of why GM is where they are today.

Some of the early '97s and '98s will report "PULL KEY AND WAIT TEN SECS". I am the lucky owner of one of those early '98s.

The column no longer locks - but I get that message at start-up almost every time. I have had that table adjusted that would normally cutoff the fuel at 1.5 mph - so when I get that message, I COULD theoretically ignore it as long as I don't mind having that message on the DIC. The only way to clear that message is to do what it tells you to do...

So I might experiment and try out this new harness from GM.....

I have a 2001 where the column locked on me. I took it to Chevrolet and they removed the locking plate. About 3 weeks later I get the same thing "PULL KEY AND WAIT TEN SECS" only when I clear it...it keeps coming back. I installed the CBM and while I dont hear the lock actuator move...I still get the message. I pulled the fuses to reset the BCM...still get the same message..... I hate this!!!! I wonder if I pull out the CBM and put his harness in will it get rid of the message....please let us know if this makes a difference in your car....
