Man these are great, I can see freeway signs from at least a half mile away. I still have some level adjustments to make, it's hard since I work late at night and can't get to my guy. Also have some vibration issues, but the lighting is AWESOME Great job guys, was wondering if george's (Radioflyer) Hi-4 harness will work with these? L8R ZFLASH
I solved the "jiggling" by using the stock stabilizer tabs on the back of the buckets. I pointed them almost directly upwards. They no longer jiggle.
What is the distance they open? like from top to bottom so i can get a measurment. Also can you control if you want them to open more or less if you want?

Sean,
Opening height is ~3-1/2" inner & ~2-3/8" outer. This is adjustable ~ +/-1/2" depending on your preference, however this adjustability will effectively be less once the shrouds are done do to a standardized fitment of the shrouds.
Essentially the shrouds will only fit correctly at one opening height.

ok thanks.. the adjustablility does sound nice though...
Was looking at the regular height HID's from JW before I saw this thread. Now I'm definitely waiting until the shrouds are out and there are good instructions on setting the stops. I'm hoping it won't take a machine shop to make this work properly.

The stops are already set. The adjustment is going to be on the lamps themselves with the vertical/horizontal adjusters being the ones that will affect the shrouds.

I was part of the shroudless group purchase and I can say that the light system exceeded my expectations - it is very well designed and the instructions are complete and well written. They include detailed instructions about adjusting the stop plates to set opening height. Furthermore JWM has created his own forum to answer questions; the responses are immediate and helpful and users can post up their own tips and tricks. The install is straight forward, but it does require some time, patience and attention to detail. I would say that it is a mod you should do yourself, not take to some shop working on the clock who just wants to unbolt the originals and bolt in the new lights because it will take a few trial fittings to get everything set right.
I am very happy with the outcome and will take some pics and post them up when I get time.

Sounds like there is a great support network. I did my own install of an HID kit on this car several years ago, but it is in the stock lenses and while bright, not focused at all. I really want to do this mod!
I've been away from the site for a while. Was following this project as I hate the stock lights. Although I now drive around with the high beams on and it's better and nobody ever flashes me???
I will say, I'm shocked that the shouds are yet to be done. What happened here? I thought mtndv8 was making them way back when? Is there even a prototype? As much as I want the lights, no way would I spend a dinme until I see the final product. Sorry JW. Not trying to knock you as you came up with the best looking lights so far, but the whole shroud thing bothers me. But, I'm still lurking hoping to see the final product. Good luck finishing them up.

My car is at the design/prototyping shop right now as the mule. Hopefully we'll see some progress pics or something soon. Quick Z06 is handling the making of the shrouds. I had the lights on my car for 2 weeks before taking the car to the shop. It was so wonderful to have real light. In the meantime I've been driving around my dad's stock C5 vert. During the day it's really nice to be back in a Corvette. But at night, those headlights are awful. Even with the brights on it sucks. I was putting together a video with a comparison of lights before I spilled coffee on my laptop during a video conference (DOH!!!).
When I get my laptop back I'll post up the video. It will be a 4 way video showing the stock lights, HIR halogens, Sun Guns with 4300K HIDs and Sun Guns with 5000K HIDs. The difference is just ridiculous. Looking at the video I already have makes you wonder why GM didn't do a recall to put better lights in the C5s.
