I installed some new rotors (GM performance drilled/slotted) and put some hawk HPS pads on my car. I broke in my pads exactly as directed, and they stopped amazingly. I don't drive my car hard around town, but it seems like they have a LOT less bit initially than my stock pads. If I stomp the brakes, they grab like hell, but I have to press a lot more to simply slow the car than I used to. Has anyone else noticed this?

aggressive brake pads means aggressive braking. Don't ***** foot the brake peddle

That is the bane of modding your Corvette.

It already has fantastic brakes, why ruin a good thing?

You really have to put some heat into the pads before you try to push the brakes hard. Its caught me off gaurd a few times.

agreed, you also increased cooling and lost some surface contact area with the drilled/slotted rotors when you did them at the same time

wow, I run the HPS on my car and they work great. Initial bite was excellent, better than the stock z06 pads IMO. try bleeding and changing fluid.

or maybe the rotors have machine oil on them from plant. try cleaning them with some brake cleaner.

my car stops great with these pads, so you might have other problems........

good luck

I have them on my 02 Z and have not noticed that problem. I agree...maybe try bleeding your brake lines and run new fluid throughout.

The rotors come with a ton of oil on them. If you didn't clean them off, it'll take a little while to burn it off and get a "normal" brake feel again.

I definitely cleaned all the oil off the rotors. I figured it might be a warmup issue. I'll try bleeding them. Thanks.

If you can, get your hands on a mity vac to assist with bleeding, much faster and reliable method of bleeding your brake/hydraulics...

Stock Z06 pads have good bite when cold. The HPS pads do need to be warmed up before you get the extra bite. That consistent feel is why I run stock Z06 pads when autocrossing.

HPS pads need a little heat in them before they really start to "bite" hard.

I'm running HPS pads, Napa blank stock replacement rotors, and ATE Super Blue fluid. This setup works great!
