I just had mine done last week sounds great but at wot I'm not too happy with the raspy sound after shifts. I used 1.75" diameter piping fwiw.

As we speaking waiting on 3" X-pipe 3" back to mufflers (NO cats)..... With my cats on, down sized after X to 2.5" sounded Ok cold but was way to quite for me crusing. Hoping the full 3" will make the difference, really like the modded Ti sound...

I'm near you and I was going to have this done if you're still able to do it.

Epic thread bump, but timely. Anyone know of someone in the Detroit area that can do this?

I also just had Quinn over at 74weld in San Diego weld in the exhaust mod by-pass pipes. It's not one of the best sounding exhaust systems I've ever heard at WOT with zero drone while cruising. Plus it is titanium!

I have no idea why someone would ever Downgrade and put an aftermarket stainless catback on this car.

Can you please ask your welder what he used to cut the holes?

Thanks

I guess a hole saw would work with some good cutting fluid. Im thinking you would use a slightly smaller hole saw then the mating pipe and touch it up with a die grinder. With tig welding, you want a tight fit (no gaps)

Plasma cutter is what I use. Titanium is VERY hard to cut with an abrasive that creates heat...it hardens BIG time. Gotta cut slow and cold if you want to cut it effectively.

Yeah i dont own a plasma cutter. I do have those carbide tipped Karnash hole saws. Gotta check if i have the right sizes. I could also check if my local tool rental shop has a small portable plasma cutter...

Thanks for the idea

I mean, you're not talking about a high stress part and titanium is pretty capable of handling heat without much movement. If you're backpurging, just use the biggest shield cup you have, bump your gas output a bit and if you can pulse to keep heat low, do that as well. Run a much longer post purge as well...like double what you'd run on stainless.

Fact is, I've welded these without backpurge and welded just like I described and it didn't fail. I've also backpurged but...backpurge is setup time and money so...ya know....it depends on the risk/reward factor. It's not structural or taking any kind of stress other than heat cycling. You'll be fine.

....
IMO, Because it sounds better with aftermarket BB Bullet exhaust than the Ti bypass mod. Ti Bypass mod at WOT and high rpms gets a bit raspy and annoying. I appreciate that you "save weight" with Ti but an aftermarket BB Bullet exhaust gets rid of the mufflers so the weight is actually slightly LOWER with BB Bullets. My car has LG LT headers and X Pipe. I just posted these in another thread about exhaust sound but they are appropriate here too. Listen to the first 10-30 sec of each video and you will hear the difference. The 8-12-17 video is with Ti Bypass mod and the 11-19-17 video is with BB Bullets.

8-12-17 with LG LT, X Pipe, and Ti Bypass

Just thought I'd bump up this thread since it's useful and been dead for 10 months. New info: The bypass mod Quinn does at 74Weld is no longer $200, he charges $300 now. I guess materials have gone up, so he charges more. My exhaust is currently at his shop getting done. Suppose to pick it up tomorrow.

I'm in LV and do the mod for anyone in the area. This is the video of the Ti "Super" mod I did. Comparison to BB bullets (weight comp, sound comp, under load, free rev, etc) in the video after 5 min mark, full build, etc.
