C5 ZO6 owners...Seafoam or Techron??
Which is better. I read a lot about my fellow Z owners who have used one or the other from time to time. Which is better? Whats the pros and cons of both products. And if you could only choose one, which one and why?

I've only tried Techron. When the problem started, I just switched to Chevron premium, and the gauge has been fine since. I didn't use a bottle of straight T, I just changed where I bought my gas.

What are you trying to accomplish? Is your car idling funny, burning oil, or do you just want to do it for piece of mind?
I just sea foamed my mothers CTS because it was burning oil so I was hoping it would help free the rings and remove some of the carbon build up. I put half the can in the oil and about a third the can in the brake booster vacuum. I only ran it in the oil for 20 miles and then changed it. After I dumped it in the brake booster line, I let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes. When I started it up it smoked quite a bit. I then took it for a spirited drive to “blow the carbon out."
I don’t know if it did anything. I guess it feels smoother but it might just be in my head. She doesn’t drive it too much so it will take around a month to see if it stopped burning oil.
I can’t speak of Techron as I’ve never used it. I have seen people say they put it in every couple of thousand miles just as routine maintenance. I don’t know how much either help but I don’t think it could hurt to use either one.

I have used both. They do the same job and cost about the same. I recently used the techron as a throttle body cleaner by putting it in a squirt bottle and spraying it into the TB and then used a small nylon brush to clean things up, it worked great.

me too......best bang is dump a bottle in a half tank run it down, you will for sure notice it run smoother. I dont buy into dumping it in the oil but have done the vacumm line trick it seemed to help a hi mile mommy van.....I do a lot of tune up work on old outboards that sit and the seafoam does wondwers to clean out the motors in short order, I even run it in my diesel and notice it run smoother and smoke less at start up.

I've got a thread out there and some picture responses in others showing (cylinder heads off) what I found using Seafoam,Techron, Chevron gas, Oil catch can, driving like an idiot, and STILL having carbon buildup.
I plan to use Seafoam more often, and delete the vaccum line going from the passenger valve cover to the top of the throttle body.... only keeping the valley cover pcv system through a catch can.

My '02 was pinging when I bought it so I ran 1/2 can of seafoam through the brake booster vacuum line and 1/2 through the throttle body vacuum line. Let it sit for 15 minutes and started it....no more pinging! I did it to my '04 Z16 (even thought it wasn't pinging) two weeks ago and no smoke at all compared to my '02... it was as clean as a whistle. I love seafoam and use it all the time in my snowmobiles to clean out the carbs.

Seafoam in the tank to clean the fuel gauge sensor. Once a year I run through the booster, but before it's done I suck up enough to choke the motor out. Let it sit overnight and then blow it out the next morning (be mindful of when you do this because the smoke that follows is quite thick), you ought'a see the crap on the back of the car after doing this.... I usually change the oil directly after doing this.

I’m using BG 44k; it’s very popular with professional technicians. I have no idea if they market it nation wide.

lots of crap in bottles for sale is just that in the automotive world....I positively guarantee you Seafoam delivers as they say..it's the best secret sauce I have ever used.

I use techron and then once a year I do BG44K fed through a canister which is directly hooked up to the fuel rail.
It's an expensive service at a dealer $150. About $25-$50 at home if you have the equipment.
1 Can directly hooked up to fuel rail
1 Can directly poured into gas tank
1 Can to clean throttle body plates.
Absolutely makes a difference especially if you have carbon build up etc.

I just add acetone in my fuel tank. it works great as a cleaning agent, most of these products are a mixture of kerosine and acetone anyway.
I run E85 on my other car and i don't have any carbon deposits at all, it's a great fuel.
I'm not saying you should do this, but that's what i use

I've never used Seafoam. I've only used Techron after a couple tanks of non-Chevron when I couldn't find a Chevron station. But honest, I've never had any issues to warrant either.
LOL, you know that Ethanol cleans your fuel system, right?! It's alcohol. That's the primary detergent in fuel additives to begin with.
