That is only on pre 2000 models only I believe. It is the passive mode.
Correct! Mine is a 98... Passive mode OFF
When i bought the car, the original owner still had the FOBS in a plastic bag from the dealer. Dead batteries as he had NEVER used them or the 2nd key. Batteries were $4 each and took about 5 minutes to program.
It freaked me out when every time I got to the car, it was already unlocked! Some things I just don't trust. I want to know its LOCKED when I walk away from it!
C6 does everything a LITTLE better than the C5, but the real deal is the prices of a C5. C5 gives you the best bang for the buck and what you are missing, isn't made up with the money you'll save.
The C6 is about 6" shorter, 1" narrower, and 1.5" taller. Not the direction I would take a sports car. The C5 is much better looking than the C6. I would take a C6 ZR1, Z06, or Grand Sport over any C5 but I don't like the regular C6 at all.
Quick overview:
C5:
Pro's : Best corvette design of all vettes, affordable price used, LS1 motor is wonderful, handles great, beautiful body shape and size, if driven carefully great gas mileage for a sports car. Con's : Columm lock issues.
C6:
Pro's : Evolution of the the C5 which is good, refinement of items from the C5, more power from the LS3 motor, better interior dash material, better aero due to fix headlights.
Con's: Smaller overall, sharp edges over the soft curves of the C5, gas mileage went down with the increase of power, starting to look like other expensive sports car.
I am liking the C6 more and more as I see them, but still love the shape of the C5. I do like the increase in HP on the LS3 motor but the LS1 has not let me down at all, it has more than enough power for most drivers. Both are great vehicles, but if dollars are an issue, you will and can find a great bargain in a C5 over a C6. I know I did. Purchased mine for $15K (1999 blk/blk, 6sp, fully loaded, low mileage 53k, Zero issues for the last 2 years). I truely love my C5 and will never sell it, I may purchase a C6 and start collecting vettes, but we shall see.. Good luck, enjoy the ride.
