I would not consider a stock coupe "fast".... Quick maybe but fast not even close but it's subjective. I say take the 2.5hr drive because when you get it tuned correctly that 2.5 hour drive back will be all smiles baby!!!!

I dont think I will ever own a stock car. I tell myself if i get a better faster car i wont need to mod it. Wrong no matter what i have i spend money on it. Thats why i think ill stick with the c5z06. Cause even though the c6z06 is amazing stock i will still dump money into it. I think if you have a good quality setup with a good tune a fairly moded car can still be very reliable. Its the crazy ones that need work all the time.

You should bite the bullet and get a tune. I'm sure with the right tuner you can get that car runnning perrrrrfect..
I'm glad my car is not stock. I did all the right mods for what I wanted. Its 100% better now than the day off the showroom floor.

Flame Suit on here too: 100% STOCK and happy with my 2001.
NO REGRETS. I don't care about "preserving collector value" or what ever, I like reliability.
I have seen HUNDREDS of posts starting out "I modded this, tuned that, bolted on 150hp, sensors, computers, lions and tigers oh my, blah, blah and now my car does not run, HELP"
I can drive my car to any of the lower 48 by putting gas in it TODAY and go, no concerns. I know mod guys will say that, but really? Do you trust it 2500 miles from home? Maybe driving through Death Valley in July, the Rockies, or Michigan when it's 20 outside?
Rememberm you asked opinions, do what you want, everybody should do as they want, it's a free country, I even enjoy seeing the mods, ideas, and 500-600hp out of a C5 is pretty cool, maybe in a track car for me, BUT, choose your poison wisely...
Give me reliability anyday.... If your mods are reliable, right on! You didn't go overboard where it impedes your enjoyment! A mod should be a true improvement.

To the OP, I totally understand your thoughts about this. I recently bought a highly modded c5 vert that I have more wrench time on than seat time. If it continues past this weekend, I'm going back to naturally aspirated.

Before you demod the car, find a good tuner and let them do their magic. Might make a world of difference in how your car performs.

I sometimes wish it sounded more stock. Not stock, but more stock. I would not change anything else.

My 02Z is fun and its lope at a stoplight keeps people wondering! I love the mods I have so far. Heres the key. Research what other people have done and learn from their trials and tribulations. Seek advice from professionals and the many vendors available. The vendors are a great source of information. Good honest ones will tell you what combinations work well together. Also, drive the 2.5 hours for the dyno tune. Youll wish you never posted this thread after its done.

No... never felt that way. The only thing I can say that I wish I knew the specs of the cam the owner before the guy I bought the car from put in it-but I'm sure one day I'll find out. Other than that, no regrets.
Might i add that the reliability of my car remains. Not so much the 30 mpg though...

Over the last ten years and 30,000 Private messages, I have had many people wish they had never modded their car or in recent years wish they had not bought a car that was modded. Most of those messages seemed to be related to the grief that goes along with over modding, or poor quality upgrades.

My 03 Coupe was the first (and only so far) Vette I have owned. It was stock when I bought it. Heck, it took me another $11,000 to get the performance and sound to meet the expectations I imagined over the years.

Stock
Get yourself one of those mail order tunes if you don't have access to a good tuner and see how it is from there. I'm thinking a Speed Density tune will do the trick for ya for the shake rattle and roll issues. A less aggressive cam will have less valve train noise and still give you decent power. Even if you go back to a stock cam you will have to have the car tuned for it any way so see if you can reach a happy place with what you have 1st. If you are happy with the power you have now going back wards might make you more unhappy. Good luck
