Go in a straight line and not much will ever touch it. From a WOW factor it can hold it's own until the real high exotics are introduced and then comes in a close second. On the track will hold its own and has for years.
Introduce value and none compare. Then make it a C5 - WHAT CAN I SAY! Smartest people in the world own C5 Vetts.

The vette being classified as a muscle car died in '73-'74, when the epa got involved and the 454 ended. However a true musclecar held true to the olds 4-4-2 nomenclature (4-barrel, 4-speed, 2 dual exhaust) coupled with a big backseat and usuable trunk, some of these things the vette just didn't have. To this day, it is the epidome of what a sports car should be and as such should be revered as that. V8 power, stick shift availability, 2 seater, RWD (AGAIN RWD!), and handling prowess. A saturn sky/pontiac variant (pontiac who?) is not a true sports car but rather a cut down sedan imo and i hate the fact that people state them as such. Is a 180hp 1980 vette or a 1984 205hp crossfire vette a sports car, with their meager power compared to todays car???...in a word yes. They were the sports cars' of their time. Supercars are the lambo's/mcclaren's/ferrari's etc. Supercars=super bills to pay for service. -end rant

Neither its always talked about as an American made super car meaning better then exotic and beyond muscle car. if you call it a muscle car then you have all the camaro and mustang challenger people trying to ride the bandwagon.
Corvette is way above that showroom to track that says it all.

Modern Vettes are sports cars. I own a 72 BBC Chevelle, and the Vette is nothing like it. Muscle cars are about out of control torque. Muscle cars are no handling, no creature comforts, noisy, no fuel economy, and fast in a strait line. Now I know that some are gonna say that a muscle car can be modded to handle, be quieted, and get good fuel economy, but we are talking of 1970 standards.

What is it?
The Corvette is a nice, sporty assembly line Chevrolet. Exotics are usually limited production, have special engines (4 valves/cylinder) most have mid-ship engines, and you can't buy replacement parts at Pep Boys.

Muscle car: big engine in a light car? No, original muscle cars were regular drivers with a more expensive, faster engine. Our cars are designed from ground up. So no.
Exotic: too many made to be considered an exotic, yet Z06 & ZR1 are right there with the
with mostic exotics performance wise.
Sports Car: Yeah, that fits.

To some of us, it is an ----exotic sports car-------- part of my post from another thread.
Think about it, although there was a previous thread about our cars being exotics, muscle cars or just sports cars. How many times have you seen a C5 Corvette being driven around that just looks like sheeeet. That is dents or tears in the body work, needs a muffler or other serious work, faded paint.
95% of owners keep the car looking almost brand new, that is one reason why new buyers of C5's are on these boards asking "what price should I pay" and are trying to pay under $20.000 for cars that either, modded or not, look new and drive as new or better. Want to see some eye opening prices for Vettes? Just look at a copy of The Dupont Registry. And those Vettes are sold at those prices. How many owners of regular cars, Mustangs, Challengers, Camaros etc. Buy lifts for the garage, store their cars in climate controlled garages and/or put the car in plastic bubbles, never drive in the rain, don't let the valet park it, watch the mechanic like a hawk during repairs or tire changes. To me that puts us in the Exotic Sports car. An EXOTIC AFFORDABLE SPORTS CAR>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
