My CD changer (12 CDs) mounted in the rear will not power on from the dash. Prior to this I couldn't get the CD holder to eject so I removed from the rear compartment and unplugged the wire harness from the back of the changer. I removed the housing to expose. I was able to get the holder to eject out of the changer. Installed, plugged in the harness and now the on/off doesn't activate the changer. Checked fuser and it's good.
Dont have a CD changer but I do have a PAC adapter plugged into the 12 CD changer cable to run my PC and XM into the stock head unit.
Sometimes if I take the battery out when I hit Aux on the head unit it doesnt recognize what I have attached to the 12 CD changer cable. What usually works for me is to disconnect the cable, then hit the Aux button, then reconnect the cable while its looking for the input.
You may want to try the little reset hole located on the front of the changer. Mine acted simular one time and I pressed the reset with a small paperclip and it started working again. It may not work but it is worth a try.
it's worked for me. Also, pull out the CD magazine and make sure all the CD's are seated then firmly reinsert back into the changer making sure the door is fully closed.

I have to do this when ever I disconnect/reconnect the battery in my 99 or the CD player won't do anything.
Once in a while I get "err" on the radio display have to recycle to get it working
If I don't use the CD changer for a while and then select it I sometimes get "err" on the radio display. Solution: open CD sliding door, eject cartridge, make sure nothing is jammed or sticking (usually manually press the locking tab and slide sleeves out slightly then back in place) reinsert cartridge, WAIT about 2 minutes while changer does its recalibration or whatever it does to the 12 CDs, then turn on radio and press AUX. Works for me.
When you pulled the cable are you sure you didn't pull a wire off ? Double check.
