Won't do any harm using a bottle of Techron every now and then. I've not had any problems with mine either but still use the Techron.

Only owned my car 3yrs now, but last summer the fuel gauge started having issues and added techron to the next 3 or 4 tankfuls and problem solved. I too treat with techron about every 2 months or so.

When I got my car the fuel gauge would drop to 0 at ~ 3/4 of a tank till I restarted my car. When I filled it up it never read more than 7/8. 2 bottles of the 20 gal Techron later after running it down to 1/4 tank and all is well. It reads over F when full now and doesn't drop to zero any more so there must be something to it. Texaco pulled out of my state several months ago and I have always used their fuel. Now I have to treat it every so often. Not sure if other gas uses the same or similar additive but GM recommends "Top Tier " suppliers

http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html

I use Exxon now.

Of course gasoline cleaned the varnish off the carb, it is a solvent afterall.

For cleaning parts, spray cleaners and/or soaking in a solvent like gasoline or similar fuel work well.

Keeping your fuel tank clean is easy, just drive your car.

As far as a good cleaner for the buildup on the valves, pistons, etc try RxP Fuel System Cleaner. It's a tiny red bottle that looks like it wouldn't do anything, but after having used it on several engines (305 & 350 Chevy's with 200k+, and you know how those would normally look) before tearing them down, I can see that the stuff works great.

I use a 20oz bottle of techron every 3K miles or so as preventative maintanance. My 02 had 70K on the clock before I did my first tranny service. The tech at the dealership said to do a regular service which basically cahnged out as much fluid that would come out and a new filter. From what I understand on a higher milage car you should stay away from the power purge tranny fluid change that basically fulshes out all the fluid with high pressure, I heard many people having tranny problems after doing that. Supposedly it dislodges built up stuff in the tranny and gets in places it shouldnt, or something like that. If your tranny is working good then do just the regular fluid and filter change and you should be good.

Since we're on this subject, below is the reason for the fuel gauge problem... fuel level sensor electric traces get corroded. Observe the black corrosion on the traces. Those traces should be as shiny as a new silver dollar.

I use a bottle of Techron two or three time a year. And as far as your transmission fluid and filter, DO IT ! Very often peole over look the fact the the transmission hydraulic fluid goes from Ice cold to 240 degrees hot about a zillion times and the characteristics of it tend to get broken down and become weak. And you can never have "Too clean" of fresh fluids in your cars different systems.

And not in tend to hyjack the thread, the corrosion on your sending unit is most likely caused by water or other corrosive elements in your fuel tank. But this is only the tip of the iceberg and you can imagine the situation when the EPA raises the ethanol content from 110% to 15 or 20%.

Holyschanizzles...110% is shocking...how do they get away with that...so now we're gonna get less than 50% actual gasoline?

When I bought my 2000 3 months ago,the previous owner said the fuel gauge was not working properly and would stick then go to empty. So they said I should fill up and go by mileage.I then ran into this thread, and wouldn't you know it two tanks of Chevron and the Techron cleaner plus,it works perfectly.Don't care how it works, but it did.I'm sold!

I guess it is ok to add techron to gas that is also treated with sta-bil for storage. Just don't know if the two are compatible. Don't want to start some chemical reaction.

I had a friend that mixed the two and his Vette turned into a VW.

Default Hi Neighbor Used to get Chevron at the el cheapo station on 198 now its Gulf

I had sending unit replaced several years ago when the gas guage did a nose dive. Was good for several years then suddenly gas guage went to zero while doing 70 MPH on the interstate. Have used both Techron and Seafoam (not at the same time) when the guage hits zero. Used to buy Chevron gas with Techron at the station on 198 at Brock Bridge Road. Its about the cheapest gas around if you use cash (5 cents off per gallon). About 3 or 4 months ago they switched to Gulf. Even using the Chevron exclusively still had gas guage problems. A 20 oz bottle of Techron and then fill the tank seems to fix the problem. Same for Seafoam. When Advance or Autozone have either on sale I buy a couple of bottles. Won't hurt your car and does seem to clear the sulphur deposits that cause the problems.

a few years back Corvette Fever ran a story about injector cleaners. They concluded that Techron was the very best and that it was a very good idea to run some through from time to time. I used it in my C4 and am using it in the C5 and I'm happy with it.
