Default Climate control unit heater A/C

After searching posts I have read where putting the later model head unit out of a 01 to 04 in my 98 will possibly fix my actuator problem. I have also read a user had a problem with the display staying on when he installed the wrong unit. The post didn't say if he installed the newer unit in an older model or vise versa. If anyone has done this let me know. Also do any problems arise from using a key without the resistor to open the doors on a 98 or 00 model?

The Climate control unit in my '98 went out about a year ago,and I picked a 2002 unit from Corvette Recyclers, plug and play, works like a charm.
My old unit was a Model 16266031 ,but I didn't get the number off the 2002 replacement-it just worked...

No problem unlocking the doors with a key without the resistor,(only the ignition switch knows the difference)but why don't you just use the fob?
Just want a spare key,maybe?

Just want to carry spare door key in wallet. Locked keys in car the other day and had to wait for wife to bring a key. Thanks
