The other day I finally finished porting and polishing my TB, porting and swaping in a LS6 intake, and replaced my heavy wagon wheels with 5 year old dryrotted tires with Mag Z06 wheels and brand new rubber. I had a friend over when I finished and offered him a quick ride up onto the highway and back around to be sure that everything worked and no codes were thrown. My friend is a huge guy, hes also really quiet, anytime he says anything people listen out of shock that he actually made noise, you get the picture... So we get going and I try to keep it light the whole way to the highway. Finally we get to the light before the onramp and I slowly go through and get in the lane to get on the highway, at this point theres nothing but the straight onramp ahead,I told my buddy "hold on, here we go" then I floored it! Almost instantly the highest pitch alarm I've ever hear goes off, I didnt know what the heck it was for a second, then I realized, it was my friend.. I let off the gas and slowly went the rest of the way to 70, then I was like.. "sorry man, are you ok?" , I could tell he was really embarrased and after breathing a sec he said, "Yeah Im fine man...... just... didn't expect that...Thats all..." I felt bad for scaring the poor guy but he sure was smiling the whole way back. This may be onna those had to have been there and know him type of things but, it was hilarious for me.. Anyone else have any good funny stories involving your unsuspecting passengers?? Lets hear em!
i think i almost gave my mom a heart attack when i took her for a ride. i swapped tires to drive and pick her up from the air port, no sense in wasting drag radials on the highway. i took it easy on the way back as i hadnt fully felt out what 600whp was like with stock f1 SC's. i got back into town and was playing a little bit but there was this jeep that was going 40mph in a 2 lane 55. so me not thinking i drop to third and punch it to pass him, right as i switched lanes the back of my car try's to pass my front. all i could hear was tires spinning and my mom yelling OMG!! OMG!!! OMG!!! SHIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTT.i was looking at the driver of the jeep passing him going 65ish, and the look on his face was priceless as im sure mine was too. i brought her back under control (the car and my mom.lol) and kept on going down the road, with her smacking me the whole way
im pretty sure i had to remove a small piece of the seat from between my butt cheeks, but it worked out.
never ever ever over estimate your tires, they will get you in trouble

Haha thats great! I made the same mistake when I first got my c5. Before I realized exactly how dryrotted my tires were I thought that my car must just be so powerfull that it can't hold traction above 50% throttle at anytime.
OK, Here's mine. This happened about 10 years ago, hadn't had my vette too long. Was bacically still new. It was Chrstmas day, went to pick my Mom up to go to my sisters for Christmas dinner. My sis lived about 30 miles away. When I pulled up at my Moms house, she was standing at the front window. Went inside to help her with some items. She mentioned that my vette was really pretty. We left and had been on the road for maybe 5/10 minutes max when she looked at me and said, "thought these things were supposed to be fast". Somewhat suprised, I gave it a little gas to about 70 mph. Then backed off. Looked at her and said I hope that I hadn't scared her. She replied, "is that all it's got". I told her I didn't want to give her a heart attack. Her comeback, "give me one, honey". Well, I really punched it this time. In just a few seconds we were over 120. Backed off, looked over at her and she had the biggest grin I've ever seen. She talked about that for days to anyone who would listen. The following February she left us. She was 91 at the time. Of all the cool women I ever met, she was at the top of the list. I still smile everytime I think of this.

Good ones. The only story I have is that my wife makes me promise not to drive like I did the first time I took her out in the Z. I think it went something like, "Hey honey watch what this car can do", followed promptly by a lot of her screaming and SLOW DOWN SLOW DOWN YOU'RE GOING TO KILL US.
When I first got my vert in 2004, I took my wife for a drive in it. Her initial impression was that it was loud and had a rough ride. As a result, she really didn't like driving in it too much.
Flash forward 5 years and with my Corsa Indy Pro exhaust, Z06 sway bars and new non run-flat tires the wife again braved another ride due a Corvette Club dinner run we participated in. We were less than a mile away from the house when she asked "What did you do to this car?!" Thinking something was wrong, I was confused. She then told it drives really nice and she can't believe how smooth of a ride it has.

All great stories, thanks for sharing. Laughing out loud at the first post b/c I have a friend just like this that I haven't had the opportunity to take for a ride yet and really think the story about your 91 year old Mom is great
Took my mother for a ride on my Yamaha (OK, I know it isn't a Corvette). She was about 60 at the time. After going around a corner I opened the throttle all the way. As I am going through the gears with a wide open throttle my mother is screaming in my ear. FASTER, FASTER.
My younger brother was up to play in a member guest golf tournament and after the practice round I had to go to work for a short amount of time. Asked him if he wanted to hang around the house or take a ride - about 35 minutes and wait while I took care of things. He elected to take a ride.
Well it was a beautiful day and I said lets take the vette. For the past 30+ hours I had been hearing I don't understand why you bought a corvette vs. this German car or this car. Now this is the same guy who inherited my 1954 A100 Healey Lemans and was amazed by its performance.
Well we pulled out and within a few minutes were in a very quiet rural area - with a decent speed limit - this is Maine and that is not hard to find.
Went down to first and let the turbos do their thing - as I shifted into third looked to my right to see my brothers arms straight down and squeezing the sides of the seat with this horrified look on his face. Let off the gas and looked over and simply smiled. Wasn't going that fast, it was just the acceleration and those turbos whaling that brought him to a new appreciation of a true US built sports car.
After that all I heard was what a great ride and how smooth the acceleration was. Only comment was - if you'd like we can go to the track on Sunday and I'll show you what she is capable of. Well he had to leave right after the tournament ended and missed a real experience.
Will try again this July.

my Granny is 86 & used to be a hotrodder back in the day with her 60-something impala & her mustang GT. when she heard i bought my car, she obviously had to see it, so i picked up my mom (who's also no stranger to American muscle) & we went for a visit. well, on the way there, we've got this great little highway that was perfect for a 140 pull - my mom just giggling the whole time. after we got to Granny's, we talked for a while then offered her a ride. so as she's recounting some of her stories about flying down these roads, i decided i'd help her relive them. we were pulling around some of the turns about 70 & hit 100 a couple times coming off the apexes. you couldn't've smacked the grin off her face with a 2x4!
i'm so happy i got to experience that with her, but wrong as it may sound, i'm also happy she didn't soil the seat!
