What if a tie rod breaks?

I had a rear one snap on a '65 vette coupe doing 75 on a curve on Lincoln Dr. in Phx. Sent me catapulting off into the desert rolling about 10 times. Came to rest on the wheels; car was a crumpled, crushed wreck except for the small part over my head. I got the proverbial scratch on my face and walked away…of course I was just back from Vietnam, 23 years old and immortal then…LOL

I'm curious, how many miles are on that 2000?
Although, as sensitive as the steering is on the C5 Corvette, a "loose"/"worn" tie rod end, should have been felt. Not to mention horrible tire wear.
A quick check was described above.
And certainly the majority has advised you of the importance of tie rod ends.
You can do a visual inspection, looking at the dust boot and for any leakage. A tore boot is a pretty good indication they need to be replaced.

I have a crazy tie rod story. I ordered new ones for my 2000, when the came I took them to the shop to get them installed. When the mechanic went to change them, they were wrong....too long.
We figured we were just sent the wrong parts. Upon deeper investigation, the parts we were sent were right, but my car and along with 1 out of every estimated 50 have shorter tie rod ends which appears to be a C4 part. I have spoken with the techs at Ecklers about this and they confirmed it.
