I'm the proud owner of a 99 hardtop. I purchased it a few weeks ago and have been learning a bit about the details of these early hardtops. I bought it because 1, the price was right and 2, I think the first year hardtops are rare enought that it ought to hold it's price well.
The PO told me that the guy he bought it from said it was a specially built car used as a factory deomonstrator for some kinda Z car, but the PO isn't into collecting so he didn't pay much attention. He did say that the engine was specially tuned from the factory to produce just over 400 hp. I haven't had it dynoed or such so I can't vouch for it, but it is very quick.
I didn't give it a great deal of thought, but as I've been reading I've learned that my car has options that are supposedly NOT available on the hardtops. These are Dual zone AC, HUD, and Foglamps.
So with these options I'm wondering, is it really unusual to see these on a hardtop? I have the orignal sticker so I'm also wondering is there any way to track the cars history?
Post some pics of this "Mystery Car". Sounds like the guy sold you some wild story!
As I said I didn't give his story much attention and didn't really care. But as I said there are options on the car, from the factory, that according to all sources (i have found) shouldn't be there.
I know from several years experience as a Chevy Dealer Mechanic that occasionally there are oddball cars produced. Sometimes as test, sometimes as demos for execs and also for those with enough money and clout. Just wondering if this is one of those and which one.

If you go to the National Corvette Museum you can order a build sheet and original window sticker laminated in clear plastic. The build sheet should indicate any options and or special items about your car.
My '99 FRC also has those options. According to the C-5 registry data 483 '99 FRC had the HUD option, 718 had the fog lamps & 435 had the dual zone ac...Good luck & enjoy your new ride!
