I did something stupid
A few weeks ago I had the squealing serpentine belt thing going. I tried to fix it by spraying belt dressing on it. Well you know it didn't work and now I have this black mess on some of my engine components. Question. What product/process do I use to get it off? and does anybody use engine dress to kept the engine compartment clean?

As others have said simple green and I usually use my leaf blower or shop vac(reversed of coarse)to blow dry and avoid any water spots.
Its always worked great on all my vehicles.

Maybe you guys don't understand what belt dressing looks like. Imagine liquid black tar all over the inside of your engine bay. Not so simple now is it?

There's also a car care forum which may give you some other ideas. It's in the General Topic pulldown.

Simple Green on a rag or maybe even WD-40 on a rag might take the stuff off. Good luck - I'm sure it was quite a mess.

At least you learned a lesson. Don't use belt dressing..........period!! I don't even know why they keep selling that crap. It will not fix anything and can permanently ruin belts and pulleys.

But try to keep the high pressure stream of water to the front of the engine. And don't go overboard with it !
