Just got window tint, rear window looks kinda funny.
Hey guys I just got tint put on my windows and the rear window looks different than what I expected. I know it is difficult to tint the rear window because of the dot matrix. What the tint company did was tint up to the bottom of the dot matrix then went across. The dot matrix itself kinda tints the top but not really. It does stand out that it isn't tinted. I'm just surprised that they didn't do it but don't know if others have it done that way to their cars or if this is what everyone does. Could you guys please help? Can you tint the dot matrix and have it look good or is this what most guys are doing?

When I had mine done 6 or 7 years ago, they did the whole back glass including the dot matrix. After they tinted it, i got in there and pressed it down real good with my fingers. It has held up great for all these years.

Just had mine done a week ago and I think it's similar. He tinted the window and stopped at the dot matrix, told me to come back in 2weeks so he can use a vinyl film rather than tint and simply black it out. He was quick to mention that it would look exactly like tint and noone would notice there was any difference between the dot matrix and the tint.
Now I was skeptical at first, but after sitting in the driver seat I noticed the dot matrix isn't even visible in the rear view mirror. I also took a look at his VW CC sitting in the parking lot and he tried to tint his own dot matrix, with not so great results. So I trust his opinion and I'll be going back this coming friday to have it "blacked out."
We'll see how it goes.
And I find it odd your tint shop didn't offer some means of covering the dot matrix. You should def head back and ask them to either tint the whole thing or do what mine is doing with mine.

My guy did the whole thing but last year I ended up cutting away the tint at the very top since I did not like the bubbles. Like the other guy said you can't see it from the rear view mirror and I don't even notice it from the outside.
I have heard the vinyl trick before but every tint installer I spoke too never heard of doing that.

i got my tint done about a week ago and at first it was not good. they told me to come back after a couple of days and they went over the dot matrix again. it's a lot better now and you almost can't tell there's a dot matrix anymore. i'm gonna go over it myself one more time later today and then it should be good.

If you're not happy I would have told them so when they got finished. Then we could discuss what would make you happy with the job.

Like others, when I did mine a couple of years ago he warned me that the dot matrix portion will look somewhat unfinished. When I went to pic my car up it looked good but you can see that it wasn't pressed down all the way on the dot matrix. It doesn't look bad, and has stayed intact so no issues. I personally don't mind it but its up to you. The black vinyl idea is an option as well.

Mine was done several years ago also. The installer was familiar with the correct technic for the dots and experienced with doing the C5. Turned out great, no bubbles. However as previously posted, a couple days in the sun was required and then he finished that area. From what I understand the dot matrix is designed to control the way the glass breaks in an accident. A safety thing?

An experienced tinter should be able to get the tint to lay down over the dots. I've seen a few around here and they looked very good.
