Input needed on new hood (OEM Style but Vented)

I would like a style as the MCM hood with stock cowl height or barely higher. Getting ready to do this to my own stock hood since every vendor always wants to do the tall cowl hoods. Pete , I have your new carbon fiber c5 splitter but removed the pieces that went up into the fender well. It looks great thanks!!

Well, I suspect you can get as many differing opinions as there are people, so good luck. FWIW, regarding the ACP hood to which people have referred, IMO it's too much. Either the center louvers, or the two side louvers, but not all three. Just make them functional and suitable for any weather conditions. Good luck with your endeavor whatever you decide.

That was one of my concerns also, but after I got the hood installed I washed the car normally without taking any special precautions and when I opened the hood to see what kind of a mess I had - there were a few drops of water left on the window washer tank and on the radiator expansion tank. A quick wipe and I was all done. The problem I was expecting simply didn't materialize.

I will comment that the reason I like the black vette's hood is cause I have a supercharger setup, but it's a Vortec.. I don't need a big ol' cowl setup for clearance, but I want to brag anyways!

just unlatch your hood, it will float in the air mass from under the hood, give you good cooling and look cool while it floats up and down depending on your speed...
unlatch your trunk lid as well, it will do the same to help ventilate your cabin...
best of all, it's all free and worth every cent!

thinking outside the box a little...
I like this idea....an insert into the hood...one on each side, or right down the middle....would be a lot easier...just need to find someone to make the insert.

The only issue with making them sit flush instead of on top is clearance. If the vents are too big you might interfere with something underneath. This idea hasn't died, I still have a stock C5 hood in the garage. I am building a few other pieces at the moment and once that get's done we'll look into a new hood.

I thought about one time taking my stock hood and taking some aluminum stock ,putting it in my CNC mill and cutting the slots, tig weld a pan under it or something similar with a small hose running water to the ground while still having a gap between the vents and the catch pan to make it functional for the super charger. Have it anodized to any color you would want it. or clear anodize for the aluminum brushed look. You could also market it for a easy install for about anyone that can run a jig saw that wanted the look for a cheap cost using their existing hood and a paper template for cutting or they could put them on about any relative flat surface they want. They could also be made for the contours but the cost may not be effective. Never did it but with some interest I might try one one day.

Another thought would be to make the vents open and close either electrically or by using vacuum basically like they did on the 70 Chevelle with cowl induction. For those that had one or remembered they opened depending on throttle. As the vacuum dropped under more throttle they would begin to open partially or open all the way under full pedal. This might even make them water tight during bad weather if you went to a solenoid or something like that controlled from the cockpit. This might be highly desirable for the ones fortunate enough to buy them. Just a thought,if had had the money I might try to market something like that.
