AC does not blow as cold after a battery replacement
I did a search through the forums but did not see anything for this so if there is already a thread I apologize and please feel free to point me at it.
So here in Texas we have had record 100+ degree temp days for the last 47 days and my battery just cashed it in this morning. So I went to NTB and got a new battery. First they did not have any series 78 batteries but they "assured" me that they series 75 would work just fine.
Prior to me getting the new battery, and I mean 15 minutes prior, my AC blew ice cubes out of it. After getting in my car and starting it up I immediately noticed that my AC was not even close to as cold. WTH??? Anybody have any idea why this would happen? Do I need to take back the battery and get a series 78?
Could they have inadvertently let some refrigerant out while changing the battery? I can't imagine what could have caused this... HELP!

Do you know how to clear the codes in the DIC? Go into the HVAC section and clear all the codes. You should hear the ac recycle, opening and closing sound in the dash. Start the car and see if it's ok. Sometimes when the battery is removed it needs to be reset. Bill

Well, I've seen this on GM's before-the HVAC actuators freak out when the battery is reconnected, especially if the + side is connected LAST. I seem to recall (and you can search on reindexing the actuators), but I seem to recall just clearing any HVAC codes may do the trick (assuming they didn't get Fubar'd on power up).

I sure wouldn't think that battery replacement would have nothing to do with the AC.

If your problem returns, check your codes. May see 361/441 actuator codes. There are posts on "Reindexing HVAC actuators" here on the Forum. You might want to check your codes anyway, see if the above codes are present as "H" (history), if so clear them and if they don't come back it was the battery replacement and you should be good to go.

I have confirmed that it was the codes and the battery replacement. You would think that this kind of thing would not happen but I guess that it does.... End result is that I am back to my ice cube blowing AC!!! So thanks to everyone who took the time to respond and help me out. Many many thanks.

If someone could explain to me how exactly to do this, or point me to a thread that does it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

2) Press the RESET button to turn off any warning messages
3) Press and hold OPTIONS
4) While holding OPTIONS, press FUEL four times within a 10-second period.
Go to HVAC section and clear all codes by pushing reset button.

Same problem happened to my 2003 Mercury Sable. I thought about CYCLING ALL AC AND HEAT MODES, IT WORKED after cycling from all hot temperature and back to Full cold, I believe the Blend door went to an incorrect position after reinstalling my battery. I cycled to full vent, full floor, etc until I went though all modes of hot and cold and my AC works fine now.
