Are black wheels harder to keep clean than chrome or polished?
This is something that I have always wondered. I am talking about gloss black, not flat black. Are black wheels going to show dust and water spots more easily than a comparable set of chrome or polished wheels? Guys who have had both, what is your take?

I think that a black anything is harder to keep clean.

My polished forged wheels are the easiest I have ever had for wheels to keep clean.
I had them finished in hi luster polish with the ceramic clear
simply wash and wipe down. Still look like the day they arrived to me after two summer of use
My Lexani wheels on my Durango R/T are gloss black centers and alot more effort to clean but I love the look of them

I've had um both. The upkeep is about the same. The only difference is that chrome will rust. Chrome is accent bling. I prefer powder coated black bling.

I guess I'd better clean/polish my wheels......

Personally I think they are fairly easy to keep clean. Mine are painted and if I obsess about little chips and swirl marks from wiping then I could spend a great deal of time cleaning them. However, just a standard cleaning, drying, quick detailer has them looking mint from a few feet away and that is usually good enough for me.
Close up where you can see how pitted and imperfect they are...
And a few feet away where they look almost flawless...

IMO, yes, the black wheels will be harder to keep clean. Just depends on how picky you are at keeping the dust off of each type of wheel.

I didn't worry about which was easier to keep clean, just wanted what I liked (black wheels), and clean them when necessary.

Black wheels do look like they get dirty easier, thats why I am considering Comp Grey wheels instead of black for my Black C5.
But then again Comp Grey will look dirty all the time if the gloss goes away, and my C5 is black so I will be cleaning them anyway when I clean the car every week.......
I haven't made up my mind yet either, except to know I do not want chrome, but maybe polished aluminum and clear coated

One of the reason I went to black wheels 3 years ago is because they're easier to keep clean, especially if you run an aggressive pad material and drive hard
