Default Which is Best, C5 or C6

I am in the process of selling my 1964 (needs resto) and I am interested in buying either a C5 or C6 convertible. Are there any particular years to stay away from and conversely, are any years considered the best for performance/reliability?

Use the SEARCH!!! Every day this question is asked.

I'm not going to get into details but there is no "best" they all have their + and -.

In general terms buy the newest you can afford. 03/04 for C5 and 08+ for C6.

I'm not familiar with the c6 but the c5 went through several changes. The 1997-1998 had a differnt return style fuel system. Later models recieved the LS6 intake manifold. The computer's were improved in later models. Active handling is available in later models. The manual transmission in earlier models had paper blocker rings. Extra insulation was incorporated throughout the years. There is a good post that documents all of the changes. Try searching year to year changes or something similar.

I have driven several c5 and c6 models. You need to drive each to get a feel for them. I was surprised to find I like my c5 better. The interior feels larger and the body looks nicer/smoother imo. The interior of the c6 seems a little nicer but not much and that is easily upgraded through many vendors.

Good luck with your search! You can't go wrong with either model. After some mods I'm getting 30+ mpg with 700whp...

It really depends on what you like, If you like a C6 better then get a C6, 2006 and newer.
If you like the C5 better, Get a 2001 or newer.

the main differences are the styling and drive-train. Other than that, it's the same frame, and a lot of parts are interchangeable.

The C6 has more plastic on it. I've also read an article where GM admitted the C6 is a very cheaply built car. They also say in the same article that the C5 is the best Vette they've ever made. I personally love the looks of the C6 but after reading about GM saying themselves that the C6 is cheaply built, I'll keep my C5. I'll try and find that article again and post it.

Default where is your passion?

Read past post and then look at the styling differences. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks or says, both are great cars and it just depends which one you admire the most.

Personally, C5 and maby the C7.

It's all a matter of personal preference. You want a Vert.
I personally like the C5 vert better than C6, but the C6 coupe better than C5.
That being said, the C6 has more power and better technology.

Everyone has a different opinion on what is the best - C5 or C6. My advice is just drive some examples for yourself and decide. Which one feels better, handles better to you, fits you better, just excites you more?

You won't go wrong with either generation, but you can get a C5 for a very reasonable price in today's market.

I'm willing to bet that the C5 will be to the C6 as the C2 was to the C3. When the C3 came out I was a kid and thought it was the neatest thing ever but as I got older and wiser(a little) I see where the C2 is so much nicer than the Shark. My all time favorite Corvette, 67 Big Block Roadster. If I could afford one with a 4 speed and AC, that's what would be in my garage. Look at the prices of the C2 compared to the C3. 40 years from now someone will be writing the same thing about the C5. Might not take 40 years. The C5 is just a gorgeous car. I remember the first showing of the C6 and the disappointment on the faces of the Corvette crowd that was there viewing it. They really had to sell them on how much of an improvement the C6 is over the C5 before anyone even clapped. It was a sad show. As with everything this is only my opinion and I hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings, it wasn't meant too.
Thanks
Dave

Drive them both, it is the only way to decide, that's what I did two years ago and I chose the C5 'vert. The C6 has more HP and newer technology, but I like the hideaway headlights, interior and body lines of the C5. The only C6 I would buy is the Z06, just a flat awesome car.

Dept on what u want to do. Just drive it or mod it. Stay away from the 05, weak rears break easy. I have a 98 and have for 9 years and still love my car but have it modded up quite a bit.

Yes, let's see that link... We've got an '02 (mine), and an '08 (my wife's), and I can assure you that the C6 is in no way more "cheaply built" that the C5!

I agree. I see no quality problems with the C6. I have an '00 vert and my wife has a '08 coupe. Looking at the forums, I think the c5's have more common problems. With 93K miles on my C5, I have had problems with the door module, HVAC display, hazard flasher, ABS system, rocking seat, headlight motor, and the oil pressure sender. All of these are common. I have also had to replace the multifunction switch but have not had a problem with the column lock as it was taken care of by a recall.

Both the C5 and the C6 were top models, but the C6 has a better finished interior. I am happy with both cars and think the choice should be based on price and your taste in styling. I always thought the C5 was very powerful but the C6 is way more powerful. You really can't lose, they are both great cars.
