Last week I checked the dipstick after reaching 1000 miles since my dealer installed the ring update in my '01. Level is somewhat above the full mark on the dipstick (remember that this is a POS) so it appears that it has not used a drop of oil since I brought it home from the shop. :D :D :D AT THIS POINT, I AM DECLARING TOTAL VICTORY OVER OIL CONSUMPTION!!!  I have about 12,300 miles on the clock.
GOLD72... Great to hear your sucess story. It's nice to see that machines designed & built by humans can be FIXED by humans. It seems a lot of folks think their Vette was built by God and if something goes wrong, no man (GM service person) can EVER make it right. :bs
As one of the lucky 95% of '01ers without any oil issue, I feel better knowing that I CAN get a problem fixed if it comes up. -HarleyB
Gold72...
I have 900 miles on my rering. This weekend, I went to the drags on sat and autox'ed on sunday. The low oil level light came on and I checked the pos dipstick. It was a quart down. I attribute it to the absolute blast I was having. I believe Chevy does say to put in an extra quart if you are tracking it. The other thing is that my rear fascia is clean, no oily film on it and the pipes aren't sooty. So two days of having an awsome Blast :D = A quart of oil, I'll take it. Plus the car is clean!
Just curious as to who did your work. I'm thinking about having mine looked at but I'm not sure it really has a problem. Seems to use a quart about every 1,500 miles.
