Doing well, enjoying my pewter coupe, seeing you pop in makes it feel like old times! Your website is still a great source of c5 info. Did you ever get the Caddy you were thinking about?

Just did it this modification this afternoon on my '99 FRC with the Hurst shifter that was already installed. I can't believe the difference it makes!

The T56 will never be as smooth or precise as the shifter / trany in the S2000 or Miata / FC RX7, but it sure is a heck of a lot better now with the one (1) washer installed on the detent bolt.

The only issue now is that it is so easy to shift, my wife will want to drive the car more than ever.

I need to stop lagging and do this to my c5z. I have the MGW shifter so hopefully it helps engage a little more smoothly.

All individual cases. I did 1 in my Z, and I was satisfied, did 1 in this coupe and I’m on the fence with a ‘maybe try another’. Just haven’t gotten around to it.

Default yup

Definitely doing this. I like the rhythm of "clutch, shift, release" but that hesitation of shoving the shifter in the "notch" really slows it down.

After installing the Mgw short shifter 2wks ago I Just did it this modification this Morning.I out in 2 rings and holy cow this thing is butter smooth. It totally removed the notchines and still shifts precisely. Thanks Toque I don't know how you guys figure all tis stuff out but I'm glad. All the mechanics I asked about it had no clue what i was talking about.

If you're talking about the 2 OilTite copper washers, you can pick them up next day at O'Reilly's for $3. One call that's all.....

All I can say is, wow!! What a difference for the better....I used 2 washers and it comes out of gear so much smoother. Can't believe I waited 14 years to finally getting around to doing this but, it was way down on the priority list what I've wanted to do to this car. I have a B&M ripper shifter, and glad to see an improvement. Good timing with the lower shift box upgrade coming over the horizon as well.

I give it a 5 out of 5 stars for cost, and overall improvement.

Just ordered my washers from Advance Auto Parts for $2.99. If you need any other items, and order at least $25 total, shipping is free.
Looking forward to seeing the difference this will make, based on so many positive responses. I have a Hinson shifter which I love, but shifting is a workout, especially trying to get it in reverse.

I did this last week when I had the car on jack stands for a wheel swap. Mine was extremely notchy so I used two washers from the start. It’s so much better now, I can’t believe it. Now with the TPS 427 C6Z shifter, the TMODCustoms modified shifter box, and the Anti-Venom mod, I think I’m finally satisfied with the shifter. BTW, I highly recommend you get TMODCustoms to rebuild the shifter box — it is a bargain at $125, comes with a lifetime guarantee, and eliminates the shifter box as a potential problem source.
