Its a MUST do for when you install a Short Shifter.

Easy to install and remove if you don't like it.

Does the trans need to be in a specific gear during the mod? I am using ramps to raise the rear of the car. Thanks, Mark.

I don't think it matters.... I think mine was in neutral. I'm not sure though.
I never had anyone ask me though. Its a good question !

It should work in or out of gear I would think.

But as he said above... Neutral would likely be best.

Good luck !

Just did this mod today while installing my Corsa Xtreme. IT IS AWESOME. It made my MGW so much easier to manuever. Sure, not quite as notchy, but feels infinitely better. Just used one washer and don't plan on changing that.

Hey Mark! I'm back! FULLY back Monday when I pick up my new '02 coupe!
As for the this thread, the anti venom reduces the pressure of the spring that holds the linkage in place in a particular gear. My moving the ball further 'out' it exerts less pressure. I did it on my Z, with the stock shifter and it works great. I think I used 1 spacer. I also took 1 3/4 out of my shift handle, making it a shorter shifter. I was very happy with the results.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...od-washer.html

20 mm copper drain plug washer ( on another thread >>>>3/4" ID brass washer approx 1/16" thick )

I went to the big rig truck center and bought what I needed.

Wow, this seems like a cool/easy/cheap mod to do. I have the MGW short shifter and like how it has the shorter throw, but just a bit to "notchy" for me.

I plan on doing this soon and I'll check back with the results.

On a side note....by doing this mod, will it hurt anything in the transmission or clutch related?

Do it! The mod made my MGW much smoother. No regrets.

Only potential downside is a slightly higher possibly of the transmission popping out of gear... I have had this done for 2 years and have not come out of gear one single time.

no issues !
I have found through trial and error, that a heavier shift **** makes it that much smoother !
do not use the white hurst ball junk, it's just that, and rattles ....
enjoy!

To those who have done this mod - is there any reason Not to use a 20mm aluminum crush washer instead of brass? I already have a ton of those laying around. Thanks.
