Default c6 shocks install on c5

just received my c6 zo6 shocks today and am going to install them tomorrow on my 99 vert. My question is do i need to take anything off the old stock shocks and put it on the new ones or just take them out of box and install them.

Default C6 Z06 Shocks

I also got mine this week but haven't opened them yet. There was an earlier thread that indicated you must exchange the TOP mount on the rears from the old shock to the new Z06 shock to make them work. As I recall that is the only modification--the rest plug and play.

Gentlemen, I am eager to hear how it turns out, please post the pro's and con's. I wonder if you will end up with the same feel like the stock setup. In other words expensive with no real gain, over WOW, what a difference. I've thought about this upgrade in the past but you guys are making it reality... Thanks.

No modifications providing you do not have the F45 suspension. If you do then you will need to do a little more then just a shock swap.

For those that had their C5 lowered on the stock bolts before the swap, did you notice the ride height change on the car? I have seen some conflicting reports that the C6z06 shocks raise the C5 by up to 3/4 inch..

Regards, Brent

I did this upgrade this summer. The only snag that I ran into was that the nut holding the rear shock mount to the shock was COMPLETELY thread-locked to the shock. Those nuts cost an arm and a leg from the dealership!

As far as the ride height goes, my car was lowered 1 1/2" before the swap and stayed the same after. Enjoy your upgrade!! Make sure to swap the springs with C5Z's and the sways to something stiffer as well!!

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ng-the-c5.html

i added the plate to my rear sway. when i changed to the thicker sway i could see as shown in the above post it was going to rub and wanted to avoid repeating the job, and wanted the sway to function properly.

i hadn't clocked a lot of miles with all stock, but i love the feel of the interstate fly-over ramps now, it just seems to love the curves.....lowered mine on factory bolts also. not in the weeds, as we use to say, but removed most of the fender gap.

in the words of marco from tropoje........."good luck!"

I did this shock swap this summer.
My Vette is a Z51 and lowered all the way on the stock bolts.
With the new / slightly used C6 Z06 shocks the handling & ride are very much improved.
My ride height increased by about 1/4 inch.
Follow the link: Probably one of the easiest mods I have done.

Forgot to mention those, but yep, if you go through the trouble of changing out the sway bars, you gotta go with metal end-links . Right off I could tell the difference in ride handling, performance and feel, all an improvement, to me.

As you can see, quite a few satisfied drivers with the mentioned mod.

As far as "ride height," not sure if I noticed a difference, but the car is lowered, max, on stock bolts, and it's been close to 3 years now that I changed everything out.

On one of my front shocks the rubber insulator came off when I pulled the shock out and I did not notice until I put the new shock in. Just make sure the shock comes out without the insulator. If it does make sure to place it back on the new shock.

yes, raised my C5 vert about 3/4"; couldn't stand it. Bought a lowering kit
and now looks OK.

p.s. don't think these shock are much of an upgrade vs. oem. Haven't noticed any difference in the cornering ability of the car even with larger sways bars and end links.

Sorry I didn't go with Bilsteins for a few dollars more.

just out of curiosity, did you have to install a spacer plate on the rear sway? it seems like some have and some didn't have to. when i test fitted mine it was going to rub if i didn't add the plate on mine.

Same here and I did not notice much, if any, change in the height of the car.

Sorry for not answering sooner. I can't reply to you original question since I didn't do the install but do not have any rub.
