Default Advice on using convertible vette for a parade

A friend of mine's daughter is in a parade.

They want to use my corvette, which I am glad they want to use it.

My question is this?

Anyone got advice about a young girl sitting on the convertible cover lid?
Anyone done this before who can offer some advice on the best way?

Thanks.

Make sure you have a rag for her to sit on. Parades will make the engine temps go up, so I would run the A/C. No heels on the seats what so ever for they will puncture through the leather.

1st is your vette 6 speed or A4 ? you'll eat up your clutch poking along at 3mph. other than that just put something soft between her butt your car and you should be fine, oh and watch out for high heel shoes, don't want a hole in your seats.

So it's ok to sit on the cover that goes over the convertible top?

I have been on many parades and you will not eat up your clutch. Your leg may take a beating but not the clutch

I was just asked this question by a local high school for there cheerleaders! I said she is welcome to sit on the front seat. I would never have anyone sit on the lid as it was not designed to hold weight, just simply a cover.

If you choose to have someone sit there and it cracks, are you going to ask her dad to pay for the damages?

If she is over 18 I recommend she sits on your lap. It is more ergonomically correct that way.

with the recommendations and whatever you do, take it nice and slow. Wouldn't want her to slip off the car.

Timely question--we have the same situation here. Not too worried about the seats as they already need to be re-covered.

That is a goog one. As others posted, try not to do any sudden acceleration because she will fall. I drive a coupe, and I drove a lady in the halo part of the roof for her home comming a couple of years ago; she enjoyed it, and I did too. It will be a good experience.

Done parades and homecomings for years. I pull the passenger seat completely forward and that makes it easy for the rider to step up to the rear deck. ( Beats standing on the console !! ) As far as holding anybody on the deck................. I've had the queen and a linebacker on the deck with no problems !!

They have hauled people for years on these things. How about the Brickyard 400........................ ?? Here's a C4, C5 and C6 with a load on the deck. Enjoy the parade !!

They just replace the decklid when the race is over!

I want to see some pics of the car when they all get off!

Default Have experience here

I have done some parades. Definitely want a pillow/towel for her to sit on. beware of dresses with glitter or anything that can scratch. If you do not have insulation/tunnel plate to reduce the heat on the console it gets hot and that's where her feet (bare) are.
Other than that make sure you have a place at the end of the route to meet another ride if you have a passenger. Not too cool passing by the police outside of the route with three in the car

Good Luck - I really enjoy the parade thing!

I am looking forward to it.

I live in a very small town and only know of a few other corvette owners in the area, and I think I may be the only convertible (that i know of). I was proud they would ask to use the car.

I think it will be fun.....

Anyone have any overheat issues? Mine has not overheated but wanted to ask. They do sell this cooling fan module to turn the fans on manually

This is a 5 year old thread about parades! Lots of threads about overheating and different options to combat it! Main thing is make sure your radiator and ac condenser are clean.
