My hat off to you bro! The Matte finish may not be for everyone but you did a brilliant job and saved a lot of money, well done. I really don't think it would have come out any better if you did spend the 4K to have it done by a pro. Looks great, enjoy it!

P.S. thanks for taking the time for the pics and the writeup, very informative and also well done.

Hey thanks a lot guys. Yes it was a lot of work, BOTH the wrap and tutorial. BUT if it helps just one person I think it was worth it. One of the hardest parts about this project was spending almost $600 on materials that I didn't know how to use, it might OR might not have worked out. I couldn't find a lot of information on basic installation methods and videos seemed to lack detail about cutting and edges so I thought "i'll keep the camera with me the whole time and maybe I can provide the information that would have helped me out a ton" Hopefully if somebody wants to do this project themselves they will go into it with the confidence that it can be done.

Uploading, copying and pasting, typing, and editing takes time too but a good tutorial is SO helpful and I have used other people's in the past so it is a way to sorta give back. Even easy tutorials like oil changes and jacking the car up were helpful to me when the car was new. Just nice to have a step by step process to follow sometimes.

Thank you for such an outstanding write up! I plan on doing this to a chrysler 300 (guinea pig). This should be sticky! No pun intended!

Well done saw a write up on the BMW forums of a guy that did this- but he also does it for a living- looked like way to much tedious work for me- so in theory you could wrap the lower rear fascia in the diNoc 3M vinyl and it would be seamless?

legendary write-up! Very well written and outlined. I love the look and admire your patience /***** with this project. Are you really parting out the car to build a GTM? That is a nice vette you have there... are there like a million miles on it or something?

I have been thinking about painting the bottom part of the bumper black, but lack the ***** to go through with it with a rattle can. Would wrapping the bottom of the bumper and contouring it around the openings along the bottom look good? Seems like it would be a perfect solution..

That is awesome.

I got to tell you though, that wrap being thinner than the 'protective' film sure appears to conform to the shape of the car much easier!!!

I just did my own front bra with the $25 ebay kit and it sure wouldn't stretch as easy as what you've done!! (but did fit very nice!)

Great job!!

Thank you so much for the excellent and very complete writeup. I love how your car looks, the vinyl really sets it apart, and the fact you did it yourself makes it that much better. Do they make vinyl in a satin finish instead of matte?

I would love to see what others do with your tutorial as I suspect some will use it to make matte accents in places in the same way people use Plasti-Dip. Wrapping a car with more edgy lines like a CTS would probably be easier I think because of the lack of curves.

For the next one you you do, or for anyone considering it, might want to check out:

http://knifelesstechsystems.com/Home.aspx

I have never used it and seen only a few reviews but basically it's similar to Fineline tape but has a filament built into the tape that eliminates using the exacto knife to cut the vinyl. Several videos on the site.

Looks like it could be a time saver if it works as advertised.
