Honestly, I don't care what others think about me owning a Vette - I bought it for me to enjoy, not as some symbol of a mid-life crisis.

I'm 24 and I'm told I bought a mid-life crisis or an old man sports car because its a Torch Red Z06. I tell them to keep hating. I've always wanted a Z06. You don't need to justify purchasing this car. They went out and bought a pick up truck or a newer econobox and probably spent just as much if not more than what I paid for my car. No wife, no kids, no problems. I spend my money how I see fit and its not because I had a sudden impulse to blow my money on some twisted idea that it would inspire youthfulness.
I'm 25 now, and I bought my car when I was 23. I get that all the time- "you bought a mid-life crisis car in your 20's?" And it's funny too, because two of my good buddies are driving $40k new trucks. People have no clue that a C5 can be had for <$20k. They just see a Vette and automatically think you're driving a $50k sports car.
I guess I'd rather get hassled about "going through a mid-life crisis" than getting hassled about being a hillrod with a mullet if I were driving an F-body.

However I thought it was hilarious at the time when my neighbor didn't talk to me for 2 months after I bought my C5 vert new back in 2004.

Mine was a mid life crisis and I am proud of my cars. I had colon cancer last year at age 39 and in my 39 years, I have never seen a brinks truck following a hearse to the grave. Why care what others think, waste of time and energy.
My motto is live for today and if you wait for the perfect time to buy something it will never happen. I have the best wife and two daughters in the world and they mean the most to me and we have worked for everything we have and couldn't be prouder. So instead of slaving and saving for what if's, we decided to live everyday. I first bought my time machine, my 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am, the same car I had when I was 18 and sold to get married. Then bought another one, so my wife and I have one to go to cruise nights, and we just bought our dream car, the 2004 c5 convertible. And when my time is over, my wife and kids will still have the cars to hop in and drive or just look at to remind them of me. Maybe I am just crazy but I am sure I am preaching to the choir here.

I'm 61 and bought my first corvette at 57. Maybe it is a midlife crisis. Who cares? All Iknow is it makes me feel young again every time I get in it. And to me that's priceless.

I purchase my '02 when I was 46, I think I am more in a "mid-lfe" crises now than then
As far back as I can remember a Corvette was always my dream car!
Yup I have the same comments and looks from others ...... then again I never did give a "hoot" what others thought, so why start now!

What I never understood is that if the average American male lives to be 74 years old, wouldn't our "mid-life" crisis occur at 37?!

I absolutely agree that many of us bought our Corvettes when we finally reached the point in our lives where we could afford and enjoy a dream. A dream that had eluded us for years because we had other more important responsibilities.

I have always owned a muscle and/or sports car all my life but yea occasionally here the mid life crisis thing. Who cares as long as you enjoy the cars as most of us do!

I'm 57 and have a 14 year old son (second family, my wife turns 41 next week). I'm retired from Michelin Tire Corporation after 37 years and now only work part time so I picked him up from school yesterday. I was in the vette and he happened to mention mid-life-crisis on the way home. I told him I didn't think it was a mid-life-crisis since I've had about 10 Corvettes in the past 38 years, my first when I was 19. He's a good kid and will be driving it in a couple of years.

I'm closer to 50 than 49 and I have had my '03 (50th anv) since may of 2010. I was going to by a '78 in 1980 when I graduated high school but the insurance for the first year would have cost me more than the car so I put it off. The kids are gone nowand its just me and my wife. I hope this is mid life 'cause I'm looking forward to the second half of my life being this much fun. Mine is a daily driver and I cant think of anything I have ever driven that comes close to a Corvette. Besides what other car is this much fun and gets 30 mpg?

Having just bought my car, I have recently heard that several times. Midlife crisis has became a "generic" word from all the ways it is used. I personally believe it's origin was from a woman trying to justify, in her own mind and to others, her cheating husbands behavior.
